City covers some 600 square miles. Might want to narrow it down a bit like downtown, north, south, east, or west side. Also do you want just some good home style food, or are you looking to sample one of our fine restaurants?

I can make several recommendations, but as stated already it depends what side of town and what your food preferences are

I hear there's a certain bar, where you can find a man playing pool with one hand. If you beat him you get free margaritas for life.

I am in deer park.. which I think would be the southeast corner. I don't really care on the distance.. just don't want to get home and found out I missed some good food..

Angelos http://www.angelospizza-pasta.com/ (http://www.angelospizza-pasta.com/) on Bay Area Blvd if you want some good Pizza or Italian food. You are near some good sea food restaurants, but since I don't eat sea food I'll leave it to other to recommend some. Lots of good steak houses, I like Pappa's http://pappasbros.com/location/ (http://pappasbros.com/location/) on Westheimer, a bit pricey but pretty good. There are a number of other good steak houses in Houston.
I know of a bunch small Mexican and Chinese Restaurants on the Southwest side. There are some decent BBQ places in town, but the ones I think are the best are actually a ways out of town.

El Tiempo (Washington St) {somewhat north west side of Hou} offers up excellent Tex-Mex and great Margaritas. Same goes for Molinas Cantina (same area) La Groceria on Washington St is GREAT for Sunday brunch (Mexican) or any other time as well. The Barbacoa tacos are killer.
Steaks-seafood: Pappas (any) or Perry's Steakhouse...which has a double cut pork rib chop that is to die for.
Oddly enough, there's not much really, really good BBQ in Houston but Goode & Co is ok as is Luling's City Market near Galleria.
If you drive by a Whattaburger, stop and grab a few :devil
And wash it all down with plenty of Shiner Bock :aok

Doziers in Fulshear (near Katy) and Belleville Meat Mkt (Belleville {northeast of Katy}) are both worth the trip. Authentic Texas BBQ offered up in a no nonsence atmosphere. Stick to the brisket and sausage and keep the sauce OFF the meat.
PS. I'm a chef and a barbecue fanatic so I know of which I speak

the best steak in texas is right in my town. ;)

That is interesting. I have found that most Ribs served in Texas are Pork. :D Beef Ribs are not that common.

Goode Co. is pretty good...Brother-In-Laws BBQ on Freeport has some good brisket and links (also fairly close to Deer Park) As far as Mexican, really depends if you want traditional Mexican or Tex-Mex. But El Toro in Baytown is never a bad choice. For steak, there are plenty of good Steak Houses around Houston, Saltgrass has a pretty good one, and if you don't mind driving down to Galveston, 40 miles or so, definitely try Gaidos, they have steak and seafood, both are good, plus your on an island, what better place for seafood than right on the Gulf.
:salute Hope you enjoy your time here

Try Chuy's

Thanks guys!! Who needs Google.

Joes crab shack?????? Salt grass Steak house????? Guys this gentleman is asking for a great place to eat. Never recommend a a chain restaurant to someone. They can get that stuff anywhere in a big city. I will echo the Gaidos post. If your in Deer Park you are pretty close to Galveston. Great fresh gulf seafood about an hour from Houston and you can walk the seawall after dinner. Great way to spend an evening. I'm thinking me and Mrs Rhino might head there for our 22nd anniversary next month.

It'll be a chili walk.
Some chains are great. He asked for places to eat.

China Garden downtown, Leeland & Crawford, massive egg rolls and get the lemon chicken. For a nice Steak Vic and Anthony's, may have to dress nice for that one. In Galveston, Fish Tales on the seawall will have the best seafood. Also in Galveston is the Spot for a good burger. Pizza places that people will argue are the best will be, Franks, Star and Fuzzy's. I like Franks. Tex-Mex i like Pappasito's Cantina.
