I wonder how much CO2 that's pumping into the atmosphere... I figure if we can put that thing out, I can drive my truckboattruck around and not feel guilty.

Go ahead. The amount of "global warming" gasses humans put out compared to the Earth is damn near negligable. Volcanos put out so much gas it's crazy to think we have any real impact on the entire planet.
And besides, the most biodiverse period in Earth's History had global temperatures several degrees higher than they are now. :devil
Back on topic. That's pretty cool, but I'm pretty sure some of the Coal fires in Pennsylvania and such have that place beat.

Pretty much the same except #1 and #2 you kind of know what you're jumping in to. Mine you only think you do.

Can't we just dump all the world's garbage in there?

Here is a site that explains it.

Derweze Crater, Turkmenistan
In the hot Karakum desert in Turkmenistan, near the 350 person village of Derweze, is a hole 328 feet wide that has been on fire, continuously, for 38 years. While drilling in 1971, Soviet geologists accidentally found an underground cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of about 50-100 meters. In order to avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided to burn the gas. Geologists had hoped the fire would go out in a few days but it has been burning ever since.

There we go again. okay, for correction:
1: volcanic activity actually cools the atmosphere by 2 means. Particles that block out the sun (read soot and ash) and chemicals that reflect it (read phosphosrus)
2: To take a bearing on this, I live in a volcanic country and we had big eruptions last year and before. Increase in co2? nope. But it does when the wind brings us "industrial air" from W-Europe.
Our co2 levels are normally so low that greenhouse farmers (growing tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers mostly) actually must buy co2 and release indside heir facilities to maximise growth since photosynthesis is all about catching the c from the o2. But on a good day with air from the continent that is not needed.
