Kinda looks like battery acid all ove it.
-
Looks like one of the capacitors blew itself right off the board, spewing hot oil the whole time.
Nice! :aok

can anyone please tell me what is wrong with this?
It's broken.
That's what's wrong with it.
-
Yup blown capacitor(s).
The comp must have shown some instability issues prior.
-
speaking of capacitors....

its just corrossion from moisture.....something about the coating they are putting on electronics these days makes the corrossion look almost like a fungus. at least that is what the guy at the cell phone store told me when i had to bring my phone in to be fixed. he threw it aside and gave me a new one said there is no fixing it.

No joke. I could tell just by looking at it.

My thought at first but it is not all over the board.
-
Yep, looks like corrosion.
You can see the path for moisture to enter at the top right of the box. Looks like the cover didn't seal properly at that point. I'll bet one corner of the cover was pretty grunged up eh?

Looks to me that it's the beginning of the Zombie apocalypse....

Well I'd say you probably shouldn't bite your inflate a date unless you've got a puncture repair kit hand....
Oh now I see the pictures... ya it's broke.

Corrosion caused from outside leakage/foreign matter (waaaay too much for it of come from any single individual (or half a dozen) components inside that box). Honda has been known to mount some of those units pretty close to the batteries....

Looks like your computer came for the last time.
:devil

There are two possible reasons for that issue. Either the owner used it to look up way too much internet porn with a light duty computer or they used the wrong method to clean out the viri they got from the internet porn....... One should not try to eliminate a computer virus by pouring vodka, beer, schnapps, whiskey, scotch, WD40, Windex, Colt45, Thunderbird, Ripple or Holy Water over the CPU

i'll pm ya the address where you can send my new monitor.

it was.
the vehicle was running fine, but would not pass inspection. here in nj, anything newer than 1996 doesn't get a true emissions test, but rather the computer gets plugged in.
providing that there are no codes, and allof the computers monitors have set, the car will pass. the presumption is that with those conditions met, then the emissions must be within acceptable limits.(this is wrong, as i have proved at least twice)
so what this vehicle was doing, was not setting the monitors. at first i thought that anyway, as i sent the customer on their way, telling them that a week or two of driving would set them.
what was REALLY happening, was that as she drove the vehicle, the monitors were indeed setting. the problem being that whenever she'd shut the car off, they'd then clear, or unset themselves.
back in the late 90's, early 2000's, the state allowed us to bypass when monitors couldn't be set, as some cars simply would not set them. not so anymore.
this vehicle was brought to me with the sunroof leaking. the passengers side drain tube was restricted, causing the water to leak inside the car, then run down the passengers side "A" pillar. the ECU is mounted in the passengers side kick panel. that's where the water came from.
it appears as if it's been leaking for quite some time. i've seen computers with water damage before, but this is one of the worst i've seen.

while that link's appreciated(and saved), virtually everyone i or the customer talked to, said that in the case of replacing the ecm, that prior to 2004, the vehicle would have to go to the dealer to be programmed. honda(from what everyone's told us) hasn't released the software to the aftermarket to program it. not so much the engine control software...we found a place where we could order the ecm programmed with vin, mileage, etc...but rather the immobilizer system.
i offered to take it to the dealer for him, and was only passing on their cost to him, plus my diagnostic cost. he chose to take it there himself....and obviously is still paying my diagnostic cost.

plug it back in there and it works again.... ahwww wait

We did many hundreds of honda ECUs at blue streak and only about 15% were done by dealerships.
The rest were replaced by independant shops.
They have two programs.
Critical Core program is where they just straight up replace your unit with a rebuilt and tested ok unit.
This is a set price and nets you a the replacement unit sent out the same day it arrives.
This eliminates any repair or diagnostic costs.
The R&R program takes your unit and diagnosis it and gives estimate to repair your unit or gives you the option of a replacement.........for a little more than critical core since diagnosis was also performed.
The honda dealerships order thier ecus from Blue Streak/standard motor products under a bunch of brand names such as borg/warner, standard, and others I don't remember at this time.
Blue streak does all the vin and odometer programming and puts the ECU into a state ready for marriage to the other modules..............usually without any scan tools required.
