Title: frame rate has tanked and get freeze frame.. game unplayable
Post by: hotard on January 14, 2012, 03:40:29 PM
The last several days I have experienced frame rates all over the place.. even when setting idle.. normally I get a solid 59 frames.. when frame rate tanks.. image freezes.. If more going on then it is almost a constant freeze..  As though there is a background process grabbing CPU.... I have not changed game settings, or done anything to my computer. when I check task manager, nothing looks amiss.. just the system idel process running mid to high 90's, but I understand that is normal... any ideas???  I had been able to cure it temporarly by rebooting.. but today not even that helps, and frame rate doesn't climb above 10.. game unplayable.

I'd have to say that you have something overheating such as a video card, a power supply issue, or a software problem.. possibly a malware infection or something.  You might want to start by removing the cover and make sure the fans are all working and everything is clean and take things from there.

I tried shutting down the computer for 1/2 hour.. then booted up and went to AH.. still same results.. Frame rate clocks at ~60, but then momentarily freezes.. frame rate then shows 20-40 fps.. but suspect at the instant it's freezing it's like '0'.. doesn't seem like I have any malware.. need to do a scan though. See if that turns up anything

Did you check the CPU usage in the task manager?  It should be at 0, with the occasional spike to 1 percent.

Your computer can be changed without your knowledge.

for grins I logged on at 6am to see if it made a difference.. no soap. I pinged the server.. 206.16.60.41 62ms average task manager shows everything setting at 0 except aces high.. runs anywhere between 0 and low 20's.  and System Idle processes in the high 90's.. Aces high is using about 1g memory.. have 2gb installed. Sending dxdiag file to support@hightechcreations.

The Sytem Idle process should be at 99 percent.  That is why I asked about the actual CPU usage.  Sounds to me like there is a really aggressive background process running.  Keep in mind, not all background processes are shown in the Task Manager.

I think you are right. I went on the offline arena.. when I was in the tower I was getting a solid 59 frame rate.. then went airborne. and presto got the fluctuating frame rates and screen freeze. Time for a check up. May try to install the game on my laptop just to see what happens with that, but it's not a permanent solution.

Well, for now I found I can shut down the computer, re-boot in safe mode, then restart the computer from there and game will work without freeze, usually for as long as I'm on.. on ocassion it startes the freeze , and I have to log off and go through the re-start procedure above.  Not a permanent solution by any means, but lets me play anyway.
