Post by: MK-84 on January 15, 2012, 05:21:51 AM
You are ALOT younger than I...

I'm wondering how you got into flying?  and how you continue to do it?

I'm phrasing this wrong for forums...but what I mean is what continues your enthusiam for flying?  and is this a hobby or a future job?

I don't know how I missed this thread. Flying has always been an interest of mine a long as I can remember, and as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a pilot. I wasn't sure for awhile if I wanted to be in the military or not, but after I took my first couple of lessons I knew I wanted to teach. I started taking lessons July 13th of 2010 and soloed September 14th on my 16th birthday.

I flew once a week for fun but it was a 60 mile drive to where I rented and was quite a task. In February of 2011 my parents told me they wanted to find a plane for me so I wouldnt get bumped off the schedule at the last minute and the killer drive. We found a plane in March and had it back in Texas by April. I flew the wings off of it between 5C1 and BAZ and had 180 hours when I took my checkride on September 14th on my 17th birthday.

I flew a little bit before I started IR training but because of numerous scheduling conflicts I had to find another CFII. In October a II friend of mine offered to do an accelerated instrument rating in Nebraska and after numerous mechanical issues I took (and passed) my IR checkride a month to the day after arriving in Nebraska. We only flew on 11 days.

I hope to take my commercial checkride on or near my 18th birthday and hope to have my CFI by the end of the year.

I am able to continue to fly because of incredibly supportive (and awesome) parents.
