Sorry if this has been asked here before. Nobody I've asked in Midwar knows, or so they say:
Whey you get a hit on a plane, sometimes a puff of smoke follows the hit. Sometimes they're dark smoke. Sometimes light. What do they mean? Is there a difference between the two?
-
I didn't think anyone actually ever shot at each other in Midwar... :D
Interested to know if there is a difference between the white and dark puffs myself...

Black smoke = Usually Oil or Engine hit
White Smoke = Usually Fuel Hit
Usually.... :devil

Don't think he is talking about the streams of vapor that indicate a fuel or oil leak. When shooting crossing high deflection shots you will often see a single puff of smoke as well as the hit sprite.

There is also a smoke puff with collisions. Perhaps it indicates damage while the sprites simply show hits.

Black puff, 30mm hit. white puff 20mm and below IIRC

Thought 30mm gave a firey looking puff. Pretty sure I have seen black puffs, and I never fly the tater birds. Well, very rarely anyway.

Yes, but the fire doesn't last as long as the black smoke IIRC.

I see black puffs ever now and then with bullets smaller than the taters.
