Hey guys,
I am thinking about getting a new box. The one I've got is already quite powerful, but I'm not flying with everything maxed out. I've got a Track IR system, X-52 Pro. Saitek Pro-Yolk, and Saitek Rudder peddles. That with a 22 inch screen, a i920 duel core processor and a Nvidia GeForce GT 220 video card with 1Gb on-board ram, running the game at 1200x800 and no ant aliasing.
What I've found is, the frame rate will stutter, or lag a bit, when I turn on detailed terrain and detailed water. So I have these turned off for smooth Gfx. But the Eye-Candy factor isn't there. I've included my current DX-Diag, but was hoping you guys has a suggestion on what box and Graphics card would be the best for running this game at full tilt. I mean, what do the guys as Hi-Tech use to run this game on full? And, do that use Track-IR when they do it?
Thanks in Advance,
InCrypt

P.s. I just realized I'm asking two questions here.
1) Can anything be done with my system to max out the eye-candy and still have smooth pan-and-scan with my track-IR
2) If my current system is hopeless, what would be the dream machine? I've got a buddy who is moving from a laptop, and I want to make some good recommendations for him too.
Thanks again

Get a better video card and a new screen. 1280x800 is awful.
1920x1200 IPS-panel would be the best.
GTX580 or Radeon HD6970 or HD7970 will run all max settings at 1920x1200.
well, except that 8k shadows thing..

Here's my setup, and I run the game fully maxed out at 70 to 150 FPS:
Phenom II 955 at 3.58 Ghz
8 Gigs Kingston HyperX Ram
MSI 890GXM-G65 mainboard
1000 watt power supply
Sapphire HD6850 that is overclocked to various speeds, depending on need
2 64 gig Micron SSDs (Sata 6gb) in raid 0
1 terabyte WD hdd
500 gig Seagate hdd
2 dvd burners
I run this on my Panasonic Viera 50" plasma at 1920x1080, or in other words 1080p.

unless you want to spend around 1500 for a new one. but if i was you I would start with the new video card and monitor if it doesnt work out or you dont like it you can just buy the rest anyway.

ASUS, Intel and NVIDIA have served me well. Jawbreaker RAM and Corsair power. OCZ SSD and a panny ae4000 beamer is the icing on the cake.
Stay fast my friend.

Just get a new Video Card, that 220 is your problem.

Yeah, I am beginning to think it might be. I thought I was doing good getting that card when I ordered the box. But now, I'm thinking that it may be the problem.
Between $300 and $570 for a new card beats the heck out of $3000 for a new "Wet-Dream" box that I would never really use. LOL
Also goes to help get it.
"Um, hun, I need to by a new box for my flight sim."
"Yeah? How much this time?"
"Well..." InCrypt sheepishly draws circles on the floor with his toe. "The one I could really use is like, $3000 dollars..."
"WHAT!? You want to spend $3000 bucks on that stupid video game of yours!? Why, I could get 5 new outfits, and a couple pairs of shoes for that!"
"But it's what I really need to get the most out of the game."
"I don't know about this."
"Well, can you think about it. I know it's a pinch, but I was thinking with our Tax Refund..."
"I suppose you could do that, but you'll have to wait until AFTER the check comes."
"I can wait."
The next day...
"Um, Hun,"
"Yeah?"
"You know that new box I wanted?"
Mrs. InCrypt lets out a sigh. She had been hoping Mr. InCrypt had forgotten all about that. "Yes..."
"I think I found a cheaper way."
"Really" Her interest picks up as visions of dresses and shoes float through her head...
"I could get this video card for $580 and it should do the trick."
"Yeah. Yeah! That sounds like a great idea!"
InCrypt happily goes to order a new video card, and Mrs.. InCrypt starts planning her trip to the mall....

Oh Bugger!
I just looked up the stats on the GTX 580, and it has a minimum power supply requirement of 600 Wats. My HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop only has a 460 Watt supply! <Grrr>
Now I've got to figure out if I can even find a power supply that can fit in this tower.
Maybe running without those graphics aint so bad - for now.
But still, does anyone have a link, or suggestion, on where I can go to get a "Wet Dream" Aces High machine - one that will run everything on full max? If I can get that, I'll give the Pavilion to my kids...

dood, think long term. i have spent that much on my box. but only 100 bucks here 200 bucks there. you dont spend all of it at one time. my mobo/cpu/ram that cost 500 were bought with money i told her i was gonna spend on some crap for my computer saved it up 100 bucks at a time for a couple of months then bingo.

InCrypt, the gtx580 is very expensive and eats a load of energy.
An Ati Hd-6850 or 6870 is about 140-160 bucks (not sure about the prices there), runs AH very well, also very good on the power consumption. Also performs fairly well in other games too, knows about 70% of the gtx580.
It has the best power consumption/price/performance ratio, by far.
If you want a real buttkicker new one whats notably better than that, you have to spend like 1500. The new generation video cards are just coming out, their price gonna fall soon.
