Title: b 29
Post by: davidwales on January 24, 2012, 03:52:16 AM
ive had problems taking off in the b29 , ive tried various runways and am worried about loosing my perks due to take off problems , i use full flaps with 100 per cent fuel , and half flaps with 50 percent or less , it never starts flying untill i after i have overshot  the runway , and 5 of every 10 takeoffs end in me loosing my perks due to low airspeed and not enough lift does any1 else have the same probs  :salute woops may have posted this in the wrong place

uh derp... its a big heavy plane... don't spam the obvious

half flaps and WEP are more than enough - don't force the plane in the air - just get off the ground and gain speed

Full flaps are for landing not for taking off. Flaps add drag. Full flaps add a lot of drag. As a general rule don't use more than 50% flaps unless you're landing.

You don't need 100% fuel. Fuel adds weight and makes it harder to get off the ground. Bombers have good range and can often get by with 25-50% fuel.

B-29s in the Training Arena are free, practice there.

50% fuel should be enough for just about any flight.  75% for a day trip to enemy HQ.  Bring up flaps at spawn in.  Hold brakes a second at full throttle and release.  At end of runway, it should get airborne.  Try out offline til you get it right.

On any aircraft  with flaps, as a rule of thumb , just use the first notch of flaps for take off, if you use flaps at all.    Bombers in the game can cover a lot of distance with just 25% fuel.  I really don’t think that there is any mission in the game where you will need 100% fuel in any bomber that you might use.  You could go to the training arena and practice take off and not lose any points or off line and see what works for you.  Hope this helps.

One more little thing in addition to what's been posted is that the current standard field layouts (and runways lengths) on our maps were made before we had the B-29. You may want to stick to using diagonal runways on medium or large fields with no obstructions or hills on your climb-out.
