OK gents give me your honest opinion on upgrading from 2 GTX 470's to the MSI 6870 in crossfire.
Here is what I was looking at getting .... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127560
The only reason is I was thinking of going back to triple screen setup using 3 of these

I know I have a large enough power supply so that is no problem there. (PC Power and cooling 950 watt PSU)
The only question I really have is, with my Intel i5 is it going to have compatibility issues?

just set up a crossfire on my rig with a 6850 and a 6870 :rock havent tested it, but I can't wait.
the only issue you should have is the board itself that I Can think of. I have an i7 and crossfire (just set it up right before posting this) and so far no issues. you need to make sure your board supports CrossfireX though as Intel and SLI go hand in hand unless the board has the technology to handle CrossfireX or SLI irregardless of Intel/AMD processor.
