Title: One Day ONLY! Glary Utilities Pro 2.41
Post by: The Fugitive on January 25, 2012, 03:57:54 PM
This site http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ gives away software daily. The catch is you have to download and install it before the time runs out. Today they are giving away Glary Utilities Pro which is a powerful and top all-in-one utility to fix, speed up, maintain and protect your PC.

I bailed when asked for a CC #...

Then you clicked on an advertisement, and NOT the file download. It's free, I have just finished downloading and installing. I got my old version the same way.

I love that software but can't really find anything the pro version does that the free one doesn't.  I'd rather just download the portable version from glary's website and not need to install anything:

you dont have to install anything.  when you click on the activate app.  there's a message that says activated or something like that then just cancel or close.  that's it.  basically just open it then cancel dont install anything.

Nice Post 'The Fugitive' ! Those give-away deals are usually great.

I used to use the free version of Glarysoft's Ultilities. Tried the pro version but found no advantage over the free version and a few minor annoyances using the Pro.

I stopped using it completely when I came across IOBits Toolbox. Toolbox has a comparable registry cleaner, and a very nice uninstaller program that works just as good as 'Your Uninstaller', and better then the free version of 'Revo Uninstaller',(anythings better then the build-in windows uninstaller). The last time I checked the free version of Revo didn't do well with 64bit programs, whereas the Toolbox does.  Toolbox also has a privacy cleaner, and a disk cleaner. These two I don't use that often. I do also use IOBit's Defrag program which I like just as much as I did Auslogic's Defrag, (another great freeware program - mostly...).

You can get the uninstaller as a separate program, but for some unknown reason, it doesn't see many 64bit programs, whereas the uninstaller bundled with 'Toolbox' sees all my 64bit software just fine. I haven't checked the stand-alone version in the last six months as I've been using 'Toolbox'. Maybe they've fixed that problem by now.

I don't use their anti-malware software at all. A While back IOBit got in big trouble for apparently stealing another anti-malware company's malware data base or something like that. Kinda-sorta makes me a little suspicious of the company, but so far I've had no problems with 'Toolbox', nor have I heard any more complaints online.

Don't get me wrong - Glarysoft makes an excellent product. I used them for a couple of years with no complaints. I've just come to lean more towards REAL 'FREEWARE' programs - not the so-called 'free' programs that have restricted or limited functionality. The term 'FREE' seems to have taken on a whole new meaning these days - mostly a negative one.
