Title: Anyone have TIE Fighter?
Post by: Rob52240 on January 26, 2012, 03:02:54 AM
I'm looking for some .wav files and striking out on the net.  All the ones I'm looking for should be on the original game disk.

while back I changed the P51's guns to star war lasers found on the Tie fighter, here's the link http://www.sa-matra.net/sounds/starwars/ (http://www.sa-matra.net/sounds/starwars/)
I was trying to make a joke video using P-51's as imperial tie fighters and my C.205 has a rebel X-wing.

However it was a wee bit out of my league on video editing heh.

Thanks.  What I was able to find sounded terrible when substituted for AH sounds.  I wanted to make a just for fun sound pack for AH but due to the shared weapon sounds I'm starting to think I'm losing interest.

Shared weapon sounds? You can give each plane its own gun sounds by putting the .wav in the plane's folder, it will then override the default gun sound (the one in the sounds folder outside any aircraft/vehicle folders). This works for everything else too: gear, flaps, etc.

Be careful.  Lucas is very strict about letting their sound effects get out into unlicensed hands.  I would not advertise your sound pack - probably best not to even tell us about it.

lol I paid for that game fair and square back in 95 or 96, along with X-Wing, Rebel Assault and all their expansion packs goshdarnit!.

Worst Case Ontario I can always take a bigger wrench up the pole with me at work and record my own blaster sound banging on a nice long horizontal guy-wire.  I'm so sick of Lucas these days anyway, the new films are so lame.  They don't even actually film them in space anymore!

Not sure if troll, or legit warning....

It's a legit warning.  However since I've already paid for it I legally have a right to a copy of it.  Like when you buy a CD/DVD they come with a license that grants you the right to make copies, problems begin when copies are distributed to those who haven't paid for it.  That's why nobody has ever been taken to court over downloading, just uploading.

So say you bought a CD, then you download the exact same CD online (it doesn't matter where or who from).  You're not breaking any rules since you've already paid for it so long as you don't let others who haven't paid for it take a copy or listen to it.

It's a legit warning.  I remember seeing this same exact thing here a few years ago.. someone looking for Star Wars sounds to make a sound pack out of it for Aces High.  I believe it was Skuzzy who issued the warning about copyright issues and locked the thread because of it.  I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened here.

As far as you owning the game.. well if you truly have the game then why are you looking for the sounds from it?  Just because you have the right to install the game (and maybe even make a back up copy) doesn't automatically give you the right to use its sound files as you wish especially with another game.

This isn't a debate about the ethics of it all..  I'm just saying you might want to stay on the hush hush about it all.  HTC could technically get in trouble if it were discovered that their BBS was being used to distribute sound packs containing copyrighted materials.

You're free to do what you want with it, up to the point of distribution/redistribution.

Tie Fighters the game is open source, which long as you don't link it to anything named "star wars" then you are fine to use it, or how you use it.

Same thing for Wolfenstein, Doom 1, Quake 1 etc. I used the tie fighter sounds and linked it to the open source material and also I made sure by getting permission (where I was directed to the open source material).
