I've had birds do that to my hawks a time or three.  Especially if I hunt with my birds too late into the spring before putting them up to moult.

'Course, then again I've had my hawks and falcons grab other birds too...  But when that happens the one on the bottom doesn't just keep flying around with an "are you serious?!?!?" attitude.
