I wish for players who use the "auto takeoff" to have to start their engines once they appear on the field.
chipr
btw i didnt bother to do a search on this because it obviously didnt get the job done.
-
Why? What purpose would this serve?

doesnt this defeat the whole "auto take-off" purpose?

Sometimes I like to sit on the tarmac without my engine starting and auto takeoff on, so that when I'm ready to start up the prop doesn't snap around to the starting position. This can be done by hitting E just before you spawn, or turning the engine off and then hitting E twice lightning fast. I have a button on my throttle for engine start/stop, so what I do is hit E and the button at the same time, works like a charm.
-
Don't you have to throttle up and actually start rolling for the auto-takeoff to actually takeoff? I wouldn't know, since I've never used it. Other than that, why would the wish be to not have the engine running if you have auto-takeoff enabled? :headscratch:

-1 I got at least 10 kills yesterday on players that were afk and on auto take off. if this wish gets implement it will affect my kd big time :furious.

was i one? I walked off twice yesterday and got distracted by good things only to come back and find myself in tower.

I figured that it would be obvious by some but apparently is isnt which I guess I should have explained the reasons why in the OP. For example, if a base is under attack, those who use the auto take off roll down the runway b4 i can get my engine fully started. Does anyone know if they load to the runway faster? And another reason, would it not add a little realism to new players on the 2 week freebie?

That's just lag. Try auto takeoff yourself once, you'll see that the engine still has to start from zero RPM.

i spawn faster than most of my squadies. normally when a mission launches I am one of the firsts on runway, sometimes I'll be rolling by myself same for when in gv's. I also have a faster than normal connection and faster than normal puter.

Is auto-takeoff the reason I see planes going 50+mph when they spawn?.......or why someone who spawned a few seconds after me blows past on my takeoff roll?

NO it isnt. And I didn't see him call you stupid, just your post. "No Comment" on your incorrect 'no' reply.

With auto takeoff enabled it takes 6 to 7 seconds to start rolling. What you see (as Mar mentioned) is due to lag. They don't start rolling any faster.
Those who want realism: ESC -> Options -> Preferences -> Flight; uncheck "Auto Takeoff".

I would have to have a ping of 4000ms consistently for me to believe lag is the reason the planes leap off the runway.
I don't have a consistent 4000ms of lag and neither does anybody in the arenas.
-
The only difference between auto take off and non auto take off is the time it takes to press the key, plus possibly a small amount of load time.
All auto take off does as far as the motor is concerned , is to simply press the key for you when spawning.

I use auto-take off and I do not "leap off the runway" nor do I take off any faster than the person not using auto-take off. What you are seeing is just your average Internet lag.

Don't airplanes have the same "visible spawn delay" that GV's do? The player spawns in and all is normal, but to others there is a delay before his vehicle is visible. The spawning player (in a GV) can be turning his turret to find that spawn camper and many times the spawn camper finally sees the player appear with the turret already pointing at him.
Perhaps because of the spawn visibility delay, by the time you see the other player's plane spawn, his engine is already running, the throttle is already open and he's already starting to roll...

Connection lag is just part of the total lag in this case. In worse case it takes Connection lag X 2 + server update interval + load time for everything it's needed to display planes (textures, sounds, etc).
-
he's right, you have a connection lag, actually we all do, some more than others plus if your computer is slow then there's an additional delay in loading all the graphics, blah, blah. so while you see yourself spawning on the runway other's are already rolling. I am lucky enough to be already rolling by the time most of my squad spawns when we have a mission. and when I look behind me sometimes I see the last ones spawning by the time I am almost airborne.
there's no magic to it. faster computer plus faster connection makes you spawn faster than others. on the other hand you are usually the first one to die while in gv spawn camping :bhead.

It's not lag but the above mentioned spawn delay I am seeing.

Lag: the interval of time between two events, esp between an action and its effect
