Title: Nvidea 470 I7 8gigs memory win 7 64
Post by: Silat on January 30, 2012, 04:01:41 AM
Shouldn't I be able to have all boxes checked without stuttering?
Or is my vid card not good enough?

It depends.

That video card is slightly slower than an ATI 5850 card.  Basically it is a middle-of-the-road performer.  If you keep the anti-aliasing set to low levels and the shadow (assuming you have that enabled) texture size to 2048, or less, and do not have any auto-downloads (skins, hires texture pack) running, it should do ok.  It not, you probably need to disable the ground clutter, while in flight.

Also, it may depend on the video card driver you are using.  I have seen reports the later drivers may not be the best drivers for this card.

anti aliasing = slider all the way to the left
Texture size = 1024

So what cards do you recommend to run with all settings maxed??

heya Lew,

I am using a XFX AMD/ATI HD6870 1 Gig GDDR5 videocard on my AMD system ( it is Phenom II 975 quadcore 3.6 GHz  with 16 GB of 1600mhz  Ram ) and I am able to run all advanced settings turned on including gound clutter while in flight and all shadows turnedon , I use the 2048 shadow textures in the advanced graphics settings, andI also use the 2048 setting in the video settings before you log into the game, I have my AA set to the 3rd notch over to the right and I use the high res pkg............ screen res is 1900 x 1080 running at a steady 59/60Hz

on my Intel system, I use a XFX AMD/ATI HD6950 2 Gig GDDR5  videocard on an i7-2600K  3.4 Ghz quadcore ( 3.8 GHz turbo )  with 16 GB of 1600 mz of Ram ......... I run the 4096 setting in the ingame advanced graphics  and use the 2048 in the video settings before logging in to the game on the opening clipboard and also have my AA on the 3 notch to the right, also using the high res pkg......... I use 1920 x 1200 screen res on this pc and get a constant 60Hz  frame rate

regardless if I start up either computer on the SSD or on the regular HD, I do not experience any problems on either PC ........

I personally can not see any difference between the 2 videocards/ PC systems .........

edit:  both videocards are currently using the AMD/ATI  Cat 12.1 driver suites  for windows 7 64 bit   and my OS on both PCs  is windows 7 Ultimate w/SP 1  64 bit

hope this is helpful ..... best of luck to ya !

TC

Before you buy another video card, see if your card is running at maximum performance.  In other words, is it overclocked?

I have the 5850 that Skuzzy mentioned, and if it runs at the stock clocks of 725/1000, there is a noticeable performance hit.  If I run it at my stable overclock of 1000/1200, the game runs incredibly smooth.

I would not recommend lightly that he overclock his video card. That's a good way to kill a card, if you don't know what you're doing.

The 6970 2GB card can run single-montior with all settings I think. I run 3 monitors on 3840x1024 resolution with most details turned up and still get good fps.

Not at all.  He's computer literate, and overclocking video cards is easy these days.  I'm not talking about overvolting it to attain very high clocks, just the overclocking that most manufacturers have within their specs.

I run my 5830 at 800/1000 and it works quite well too!  I'm actually extremely surprised at how well it performs.

Yeah, it's a very nice surprise that they're so stable with nice OC's. :)

I'm running pair of GTS 450 SLI with graphics on full, with shadows turned off and I get a solid 60fps in game.

ack-ack

forgot to add computer's brain is an i7-2600k@3.4GHz with 8g of RAM.  Using hi-res textures with 2048 texture size at 1920x1080 resolution.
