Title: broken barrels
Post by: bangsbox on February 02, 2012, 01:20:45 AM
barrels should be able to disable. plenty of pics and stories of tanks hit in barrel. also id like to mention my shoot bomb/bomb load, plane go boom. this happened may times in the war and should be a realistic short cut to blow up an aircraft/ have bomb pilot drop early when attacked

All guns are able to be disabled. Except B-26 tail guns, but that will be fixed when they get updated (unless HTC has a sense of humor)

How would this be any different that having your turret disabled?

As for hitting a planes bombload, you want to explode right?  So how is that any different for when you hit a plane...and it explodes?

Hitting a tiny super-hardened round "tube" from any angle? GOOD LUCK!

Chances are almost no hit would ever impact the barrel itself. They round nature would deflect or ricochet the round to exploding anywhere but inside the metal.

I wonder where you ever got such an idea?

There was an episode on greatest tank battles that showed a couple old tanks, guy was describing the battle, one of the tanks took a ricochet that bounced up and took out the barrel.

I'm surprised there's not more people who watch dogfights and want the P51 to be able to instant reverse while flying backwards at 400mph on a 109, or people who think a P51 cockpit should deflect and block 30MM taters from a 262... :)

Looks like a WWI-era tank to me. Or one of those tin cans the Japanese slapped treads on and called a tank.

Used to have a Time-Life book that had a picture of a Syrian T-62 with a hole through the barrel at about a 60 degree
angle.  It was supposedly caused by an Israeli 105mm sabot round.  Very impressive.

Easy to hit because of the meaty 152mm gun.

Sherman tank at the Rock Island Arsenal Memorial Park.  Sherman tank was damaged by a direct hit to the tank barrel.  The restorers at RIA painted the largest battle scars yellow to illustrate the damage.

I've seen several pictures of barrel hits to tanks, and I assume that this is fairly rare overall, but that would still disable the turret, which is modeled.  Perhaps a different approach, say the turret can is damaged and can not traverse, or has to be turned manually due to damage?
