Title: FSO Frame 1 Summary
Post by: Nefarious on February 04, 2012, 06:18:32 PM
The Allied Ace Pilot was AKWxMan.  He was representing Warrant Officer Machinist Donald Runyon (USN) - The Navy's top F4F ace was Machinist Donald Runyon flying with VF-6. The first day of the Watchtower landings Runyon shot down 2 Val dive bombers and on the next day shot down a Mitsubishi bomber and a Zero. On the 24th in the Eastern Solomons he shot down three more Vals and another Zero. Scoring 8 times in 3 sorties. He would shoot down 3 more aircraft flying Hellcats in 1944.  http://acepilots.com/usn_aces.html#Runyon

AKWxMan shot down 1 G4M1 flown by DWDing and also had 2 assists and landed successfully!

The Axis Ace Pilot was Perdweeb. He was representing Ensign Saburo Sakai (IJN) - During the first mission to Guadalcanal on August 7th Sakai shot down a Wildcat and a Dauntless. After dispatching both he then found what he thought were Wildcats. He dove in for the kill only to find out they were SBDs and was shot in the head and blinded and paralyzed. He then flew more than 4 1/2 hours back to Rabaul and landed successfully despite passing out several times. He would claim over 60 kills in World War 2. http://www.acesofww2.com/japan/Aces/Saburo_Sakai.htm

Perdweeb shot down 5 F4F-4s flown by BC, Skull001, Wolfbow, ZeeFire3, Guthrie and Blackboy and also had 2 assists and landed successfully! He was also the highest scoring pilot for the Axis!

The Axis sunk 3 ships, while the Allies sank 0. The Allies managed to hit their targets but they just wouldn't go down! Due to a problem with my access to the raw logs I can't confirm what type of ships were sunk. I will post that info as soon as I get access to it.

Allied Pilots: 177
Axis Pilots: 187

Allied Kills: 159
Axis Kills: 66

Allied Assists:101
Axis Assists: 57

Allied Deaths: 67
Axis Deaths: 108

Congratulations to Alpha81 and WldWeasl for being the top allied scorers tied for 6 kills. DrBone had the most objects destroyed for the Allies with 16.

Congratulations to Perdweeb for being the top Axis scorer with 5 victories and FBEagle for having the most objects destroyed on the Axis side with 25.

It appears that a Cruiser and a Destroyer were sunk at 51. And a Cruiser at 55.

LOL pull it out all you like.

It's all a true story and quite well documented.  He was paralysed on one side as a bullet had entered his brain in the opposite hemisphere.  He had the use of one arm and one leg while the other side was numb and lifeless to him.  He remained permanently blind in one eye (it looked normal but had many fragments in it) but still returned to active combat after a very long stay in hospital.  With sight in only one eye, he scored further combat victories.  He was Japan' s greatest living Ace at the end of the war (his terrible wounds from Guadalcanal saved his life by keeping him out of combat again until late in the war).

After the end of the war he became religious, swearing to never kill another living thing.

The Axis also lost 14 of the 15 A6M3s they launched. Therefore they will only have 10 in Frame 2.

After the end of the war he became religious, swearing to never kill another living thing.

All true, and he also became an unrepentant Pachinko Junkie.  But, during the filming of a movie about his life in 1977, he was invited out to one of the special effects lots to advise a group of RC pilots on BFM.  He actually was less enthused about the BFM and totally fascinated by the 'toy' airplanes. During the winter of 1977 Sakai, with the help of Bud Voss, and a little help from me, built a MiniAntic monoplane.  On a calm day the following spring, he flew it at Tachikawa AB just outside Tokyo.  He did quite well for his first day and the aircraft survived. It is almost impossible to fly RC with no depth perception.  But he did it.  He had dogged determination to fly his broken Zero and head wound all the way back from Savo Island to Rabaul.  But that was him. It was how he approached his life.  He was a gentleman, but you would not want him on your six.

Congrats to AKWxMan for killing me. (argh) I had 2 red guys on my 6 and I was able to get a hit on one of them and make their engine smoke.
So I am curious, was that one you WX?  If so happy you got it down.   DWDing.

You knocked out my engine oil DWDing, I was able to water land near the TF, but I bailed instead of taking the ditch.
