I think that along with the ability to scroll back into the past on text channels as well as wrap text to next line, resize / refont the format, callsigns should be allowed more characters.
Sometimes 8 bits just isn't enough.

8 character limit for handles is more than enough.
ack-ack

I agree it's plenty. I've always thought our callsigns should sorta sound like callsigns, which adds to the gameplay expierence. adding more characters would detract from that by making it more convienent to come up with stupid, long, hard to pronounce (or embarrasing to) names on vox, and to type a message to. do you really want to <S> a "Bl4kD34Th0WNzN00bz42069" or join his plane? or look up his score? or even fly with that person? I don't want it longer myself.
Oh 8 Characters gives you 208,827,064,576 different combinations to work with.

Ask any toddler to hit 8 keys on your keyboard, I don't expect them to spell a word.

too bad the vast majority of the combinations are unpronounceable garbage jumbles...
SYSTEM: jheghlgf landed 6 kills in a p51D
phngbsnd: check your 6

I think callsigns should be short and easy to pronounce.
Sometimes I don't give check six calls to people because by the time I figure out how to pronounce their name they get shot down.

That's why after a couple of months as a numbers guy (yes, I just randomly punched things in on the number pad ), I always stuck with names that are easily read, typed, and spoken.
Got sick of being told 'hey numbers, just shut up' and 'yo, noob, go change your name'. After I learned the ropes, I also realized how stupid and annoying names like 50593492, or ANQX17 are.
Speaking of such things, I've never understood why so many squadrons feel like having ~~~~~ , ****, ((((, ----, $, or any combination thereof make their names cooler looking. To be honest, and I mean this in the nicest, most inoffensive way possible, I've always felt like it was something a (to steal a line from a movie) retarded gang-banger would come up with.
EDIT: completely unrelated and unimportant, spell check's first suggestion for 'gang-banger' is 'concubinage' :lol.

I always assumed they liked to decorate their name. :D
