They did not produce real M16's.  You've heard a myth that has been ongoing for decades.

They made a toy called the M16 Marauder.  That's it.

If you read the 2nd link, somebody photoshopped a Mattel logo onto an actual lower, as a joke, and it kept the myth alive.

The old man told me about when he had to give up his M-14 for the 16. They weren't to thrilled and he was also under the impression the furniture was made by Mattel. He said all in all is wasn't with the lighter weight and being able to carry alot more ammo. Even so he's some how procured my Springfield M1A from me instead of getting an AR.  :D

He's got my AK as well come to think of it.  :headscratch:

you would be surprised which companies made weapons in ww2.

IBM  was one of them.

oh and this is funny.  both ford and general motors contributed greatly to the war effort, the German war effort that is  :confused:.  their subsidiaries in germany kept up the pace just like in america.  it's amazing what you can find online.

I remember that the punchcard machines the nazi's used to keep track of camp inmates were IBM's as well. Also, Coca Cola created Fanta Orange to be able to still sell a product in Nazi Germany while still having Coke as the "American" drink.

FWIW, When I was a kid I had a Mattel tommy gun cap gun. It was great fun and I used it a lot until it finall broke. Years later I was on my first military rifle range at Davis-Monthan AFB shooting a M16 for the first time. My first thought on the first shot was that the "sproing" in the butt stock sounded just like the old Mattel tommy gun spring!
