Title: Packet Loss - Strange
Post by: BiGJiM79 on February 12, 2012, 10:52:43 AM
Hi Folks,

I seem to be experiencing massive packet loss on the main arena, but none in the DA or Early war, I know they are sepperate IP addresses, but what do you think might be the reason one works and the other doesn't?

I can just log into the main arena, but then a short while later it says "Host connection lost" and the game bombs back to windows.
I can see that when I click to change airfields / end flight tower there is a big delay.

If anyone could lend a hand that would be great.

Jim

Not having any other issues online at all, so this is puzzling me, as I havent changed any settings, just the ip address ending in 41 isn't happy.

That certainly looks like a bad run to me.

I'd download and install the FREE version of PingPlotter (google it). Ping the different address below.

Axis vs Allies, Dueling, Early, Mid: 206.16.60.39
All WW1 Dogfight Arenas, Training, Late War: 206.16.60.41
Special Events: 206.16.60.38
Custom Arenas: 96.226.224.166

It should show you where the errors are. You may have to deal with your ISP to get them to work on the issue.

About the only thing you can do on your own is to Re-boot both your router, and modem. Unplug them both and leave them off for 3 minutes or so. Plug in the modem and let it boot (couple minutes) then plug in the router and wait until that finishes it reboot. Then test the pings again. If that doesn't clear it you may have to contact your ISP.

Unplug your modem and router for about 60 seconds and then plug it back in (to reboot it).  You're losing packets at the first hop past your router which tells me the problem could be a bad modem or a line problem between your house and your box.

I'm also shocked to see 44 ms from your computer to your router.  This should really be much, much lower (2ms.. maybe 5 or 6 tops).  If you have a wireless connection that could be a sign of interference or once again.. a bad router.

Thanks for the replies folks, I am thinking the router is not working properly, I have run Pingplotter and it doesn't loose packets while pinging UK based locations, however when I ping the Main Arena I get this:

My Broadband provider is running a 24 hour test, and are getting back to me tomorrow, so if its a fault with them, hopefully they will ix it.

Jim

PS I'm not using wireless, I have a network cable plugged in.
