Title: Revisionist history?
Post by: MiloMorai on February 17, 2012, 05:06:10 PM
1. The Tuskegee airmen once shot down three German jets in a single day.
On March 24, 1944, a fleet of P-51 Mustangs led by Colonel Benjamin O. Davis, commander of the Tuskegee airmen, set out on the longest escort mission their crews would fly during World War II. The 43 fighters were there to help B-17 bombers run a gauntlet of over 1,600 miles into the heart of Hitler’s Germany and back. The bombers’ target, a massive Daimler-Benz tank factory in Berlin, was heavily defended by whatever forces the Luftwaffe could muster at that point in the war. The 25 aircraft protecting the plant included the battle-tested Fw 190 radial propeller fighters, the Me 163 “Komet” rocket-powered plane and the much more formidable Me 262, history’s first jetfighter and the forerunner of today’s modern fighters. While the American P-51s typically lagged behind the Me 163s and 262s, they could outmaneuver them at low speeds. The German planes also tended to run out of fuel more quickly than the Tuskegee airmen’s Mustangs. Making the most of their limited advantages, pilots Charles Brantley, Earl Lane and Roscoe Brown all shot down German jets over Berlin that day, earning the all-black 332nd Fighter Group a Distinguished Unit Citation.

On 19 April 1944, Erprobungskommando 262 was formed almost a month after said shoot downs.

The first actions involving the Me 163 occurred at the end of July, when two USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress were attacked, some 4 months after said shoot downs.

Typo. The mission happened on 24 March 45, not 44.

Yes Christopher Columbus discovered the New World for the European peoples.  The Vikings never really shared their exploration data with everyone else so they get boned on the credit.  And come on, everyone knows by now that if it isn't a European based person thinking/going/inventing/using something/somewhere then it doesn't count. /sarcasm incase that didn't get through the internet.

:old:True History is always revisionist history.  History, IE: His Story: The Story of Mankind through the Ages, is constantly and should always be constantly revised as new facts are discovered and weighed against assumed knowledge.

But the important thing is to make sure that these new facts are indeed facts and not driven by propaganda, popular culture, or ulterior motives.  :noid

Now my opinion on the above... Did CC discover the Americas? No, but he paved the way for Europe's colonization of the Americas.  Was that a good thing? Yes and no.  Yes because it eventually lead to my existence, no because a helluva lot of people died as a result.  Bad Small Pox.

Do I think we should celebrate CC day?  Not really... but I'm all for an excuse to not be in school for another day.  Honestly I'd prefer George Washington Day, or Abe Lincoln Day.  Now those are people we should have days dedicated to for Holidays and examples for our children.

+/- 10500 years ago the Star Gods came to this planet and enslaved the inhabitants of this planet.  In order to maintain control, they 'interbred' (genetically modified) certain individuals to include certain traits of the master race.  These bloodlines, knowing their true history, have interbred and inbred between themselves throughout history in hopes of being able to bear the children of the gods when they return.

the date is a typo, if you check the date through all other sources it is 45 not 44.

ok, now this is from wiki, BUT it is supported by outside sources within the text so i am incline to give this some credence. course it is only as accurate as the original sources are, that is anyone's guess.

The 332nd Fighter Group was awarded a Distinguished Unit Citation (DUC) for a mission flown on 24 March 1945, escorting B-17s to bomb the Daimler-Benz tank factory at Berlin, Germany. The American pilots were credited with destroying three Me-262 jets of the Luftwaffe's all-jet Jagdgeschwader 7, despite the American unit initially claiming 11 Me 262s.[39] The bombers also made substantial claims, making it impossible to tell which units were responsible for those individual four kills.[40] Upon examination of JG 7 records, just four Me 262s were lost and all of their pilots survived

Caldwell and Muller 2007, p. 276

so of the four that the german records show as being lost on that day the fighters made claims but so did the bombers. my only doubt that the fighters did destroy the 262's, and not the bombers, is the lack of gun cam films produced to support their claims. so who really shot down the 262's shall remain a mystery, unless that is, the film from the 51 gun camera's are ever released to support the fighters claims.
