- AH reduces its maintenance costs by turning to a p2p centered networking model (while retaining a persistant world).
- AH switches to a "Free" charging model with micro-transactions for planes above certain ENY.
- A facebook "Aircraft factory" Casual Game in which players manage a WW2 aircraft factory despite predictable issues. These factories would be bound to each country in-game and effect the supply of planes in-game for each country.
- For each aircraft produced and sold to a player in-game, the person selling the plane from their factory gets a decent share of the money from the micro-transaction.
- Personal skins and decals at extra cost for greater expression (pre-made skins/decals can be sold on the factory floor as well).
- Custom Factory stripped templates of Tank/plane models at extra cost (remove armour, fueltanks/guns/etc to gain things like speed/maneuverability/climb).
- If flying a plane of value, every kill of another plane that cost money adds the cost of that killed plane to your current plane value and only the increased value is credited to you upon landing successfully.
Scheme 2:
- AH goes Fully free to play, sponsored by Out and In-game ads (Like a red bull logo on a p38 for example or a coke insignia on b17s/etc).

Great to see the old wishlist ideology sticking strong! Heres some tips for the more "strong" of mind.
Lesson 1: How to groove with ideas:
1. Picking items or tokens within the string of concepts which you think might have potential from *another angle* is ok and doesn't make you a sissy.
2. If you find yourself rejecting ideas without a further thought, don't respond.
3. If the edge of the box looms, be thankful thats its a reminder that your still stuck in it.
-
-1
This would significantly reduce the number of people playing AH and change the game completely.
In Scheme 2 how will HTC make their money? Something is telling me they don't want to work for free.
-
3. If the edge of the box looms, be thankful thats its a reminder that your still stuck in it.
Actually people paying to play is a choice not a box. Needing the game to be be free so you can play may mean you need to crawl out of your box and get a job.

If that's true, I'm in the same position. If it were free, sure! I have a job, not great paying, but whatever.
I don't have the credit card to do it.

Yep... Threw up in my mouth a bit there. Nice job.

Lesson 1: stfu and gtfo.
But in all seriousness, we can't pick 'items or tokens' that have potential, because its all crap. There is quite litterally not ONE good thing in your post.

Wow..... is it just me, or does that seem very Liberal...
and to the OP, thats one of the worst idea's i've seen on here...
-
Wow..... is it just me, or does that seem very Liberal...
What do political tendencies have to do with this?
Also, to the OP: HTC Has already put the kibosh on most of your ideas and I'm pretty sure they are very adamantly against it. THAT is why your ideas are getting flamed worse than Tokyo during the fire raids.
And to the rest of the ideas they haven't said no to already, I've seen each of these ideas implemented in various MMO's and they are now all dead as a doornail. Your ideas if added would simply kill the game, and it's one of the longest running MMO's that are still around if I'm right.

B-17 call the office and set up a way pay by check or money order. Do you have a debit card by chance? I don't use a credit card, I use my debit card.

As somebody who is extremely, by US standards not European standards, Liberal, I have to say no, his ideas are not Liberal at all. Just bad.

Luckily HTC has already said no to a "monetary" system so thankfully most of this idea is dead before it started.

There is this thing called the US Post Office. If you stop by there you can buy a money order and put it in an envelope and even MAIL it from there to HTC to pay for your subscription.

UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.......... .............i think even DW would flame this thread and tell the OP to Foff!!!!
if you want a facebook "help me clean my fish tank and plant my crops game" then stay on FB and play those types of games, but please dont bring that kind of mentality in here.
have you considered W.o.T.?

micro transactions are funny. yesterday i was playing world of tanks and some guy used about 3 or 4 dollars worth of gold shells to kill about 5 or 6 of us. A total waste of money but I guess he could afford it.
I can just imagine ah giving free 2 mg's loaded with .303 but with option to buy 2 cannons and 2 extra mg's for the same airplane. the guy who is willing to spend the money will get the most kills.

How would this work in a game that gives you everything at a basic subscription rate that you need to be competitive in a free for all arena of 400-600 players? No newbie could be reasonably expected to get past the initial learning curve of the game if they were buying bits and peices of the game while being fodder to the full subscription players. Or is this aleviated by the suggestion to let advertisers subsidise subscriptions? Wonder how femenin hygene adds would be handeled? :headscratch:
Partial tool sets would create a scewed reality of the game and directly contribute to frustrated leaving of the game rather than encouraging a player to fully subscribe. How would the partial subscriber take part in missons or special arena scenarios? How would they even survive furball lake enough to not think it was designed to descriminate against partial subscribers? The free two week trial gives them a full temporary subscription with access to all of the available tools to check out the potential.
Or did you forget to ask for a Newbie only training wheel arena with relaxed realism, no Ho's, no blackouts and bright red or green dots as your tracers? And the terrain tiles could be advertiser billboards tiled to the horizon and up the mountains sides with indestructable drones towing animated advertisments over head at every arifeild. And every 15 minutes on country channel VOX advertisements would loop through their jingles. I can just hear the Trojan Man song then a Colt 45 Malt addvertisment along with some feminin hygene spots. Then to finish the loop a Christian Public Service announcement for mental health services.
Heck most of us drink beer and fly from what I can tell over the years. What if all the major beer brands competed for VOX loop spots and animated tiles like competing for super bowl spots? Then we all could play mostly for free and really need some mental health services for our growing beer drinking problems. But the revenue it would generate from hundreds of beer drinking players.....
Guess that would be like advertising to a tiny rural town in the wheat belt with a single stop-N-go near by on the interstate exit. Heck beer sells itself or the beer belly and the Betty Ford center wouldn't exist.

Let me see if I got this straight ....
You come up with an alternate business plan for HTC as a 'wishlist' that other players see as flawed.
As a result, you take offense then attempt to educate those players as to why their logic is flawed and not your suggestions.
Heh .... by all means. :ahand

Tad too unreliable for me, and I'm Canadian-- the dollar is all wierd, and stuff. Bottom line: too much work for something I probably wouldn't even have much time to play.
-
We all see what we want to see, but maybe what you see in the idea is better then what I see? Or less so? Who knows, until you let it sink in and you groove with it?

Eh, not always. Sometimes we see a post from someone that entails an 'idea' that isn't really much of one (followed by cryptically formulated sentences of a defensive nature in following posts when not one single other person on the forum praises it as something worthy). But I tell ya what, thanks for sharing and I, for one, will add it to my list of things to consider pondering after I consider other more worthwhile things. :salute

I don't understand what you are proposing. How would that work? Which maintenance costs do you think would be reduced by using a peer-to-peer model? And what data would be communicated in a peer-to-peer way?

Think he wants AH restructured into more of a free semi-open source WoW gaming environment with advertisers footing much of the bill directly to HTC for unrestricted access to the player base. Like if the free H2H had been expanded to 1000+ (semi-open source) player rooms hosted by any player from wherever and advertisers payed a royalty to HTC to imbed their active sales coade into each new distribution as HTC cranked them out.
Eventualy the AwowH community would hack one of the releases and put up rouge sites and HTC would no longer receive advertising royalties. HTC would spend alot of time in court over intelectual property rights.
Does Myg even play this game under the ID Myg or is he a shill for an HTC competitor?

Myg world of planes is in alpha testing, so set tight and you can go play over there. I am positive that W.O.P, will be just as good as Aces high. I won't mind having to set thru 400 battles just to get to my beloved Hog, and then have to pay to get it. Since all the kids who haven't left the basement and are living on mommy and daddy's credit card will be able to just grab it. As it stands, aces is about the pilot, albeit some like to fly with training wheels, a person in a hurry can beat a 109 but he has to be smart. So let's see here uuuuummmmmm, NO.

"HiTech Creations was founded with a simple philosophy by Dale "HiTech" Addink in 1999. It's not to create a large corporation, a vast gaming network, or a line of online games. It's just to create one game, but one that is better than any other like it. Contrary to most companies, our goal is to keep the company small. We know that with a singular focus and an experienced cohesive team that enjoys its work, the production, service, support, and overall level of satisfaction will be unmatched."
A p2p centric design is not a change in principle/philosophy; but in implementation. Neither is the f2p model, for that matter.
Imagine that money saved/gained (if it was a good amount) spent on getting the current staff to playing more or hiring new people to play in the arena and moderate it? If there were more people to moderate the arena, then most hacking would be kept to a minimum, not to mention the positive social aspects related to having dev's flying around to shoot and reliable moderators around to rely on for help/etc.

-
Apologies, triple post; epic.
-
Sorry, no reason for such a system to be implemented. It would deter new players, be gamey as HELL to see a Marlboro add on a spitfire I just shot down, and I'm sure it would actually get to the point that a fair number of our deicated community would quit.
-
Myg you sound like a cool guy. so I am just gonna point out to you that allegations of cheating/hacking are not allowed. it can get you banned from the bulletin board.
as for the p2p perhaps if you researched more about the benefits/savings and presented a concrete proposal, I am pretty sure your idea would be more accepted. the micro transactions will not happen in the near future and if you really want to know why then perhaps you should research it too. but the idea of micro transactions are based on a few guys paying beaucoup money to support a lot of guys playing for free. Kinda like world of tanks.
but seriously I really wish people would stop trying to "fix" something that they have no idea how it works. hitech is no dummy when it comes to running a company. and he may not be able to spell it but he sure as hell knows how to coad the game to make it fun.
google this and you will have an idea of what problems may arise.
"problems with p2p"
"problems with micro transactions"
I'll give you a quick example of how stupid micro transactions are. in world of tank a guy killed about 5 or 6 of us using what are called "gold" rounds. he probably spent about 1 or 2 dollars based on the number of rounds he shot and wasted. and that was for 1 battle that lasted about 8 minutes. I heard of some guys spending 3 or 4 hundred bucks in a few months to get to top tanks there. aces high costs about 170 bucks for the whole year and that gives you access to all the planes and gv. so which way would you rather go? micro transactions are depending on a certain type of play that doesn't exist in aces high.

Myp do you CEO and code your own international subscriber game?
If so please enlighten us to your buisness model, vision statement, your real name as said CEO or owner, and name of said game along with your company WEB page. How many staff do you support and are you located in the U.S., Israel, Russia or the EU? How long have you been personaly coding and selling profitable games and how old is your company?
Can you point us to any of your articles in any game or industry periodicals so we may read about your accomplishments and any interviews of you from gaming community journalists. Are you a product of the recent phenomenon of game coding schools for profit or a computer science/programing graduate of a known university?
Afterall you are using an anonymous identity to challenge this game owner over his business model in a manner by which you cannot be taken seriously. If you were the owner operator of a business, or even looking for a coding job, you would have directed your queries to HTC in Texas privately.
Otherwise past this point you are David Wales using another account or a pretty poor Troll.

You're actually using the WWI arena as an example of why he should follow a bad business plan, overall? Huh.
-
WWI arena was put in place to test real time new functions like the damage model which was introduced with the 4 aircraft in that arena. That arena is serving it's purpose for the developer who published to the community at it's rollout why he put it in place.
The OP is still trolling since most in this community knew this information about the WWI arena. The owner of the game can put up a live testing arena and let subscribers play in it if he wants to. It's his game. I'm still seeing a single individual cherry picking while not providing any factual data supporting his proposal or what he is unhappy with about this product. Wikipedia, uniformed personal observations, and personal infer'd ageismic insults against Hitech don't constitute an authoritive argument supporting the OP's original assertion.
It shows the OP personaly dislikes the player subscriber HTC business model and lack of responsive attention by the developers to him personaly. He also is showing prejudicial descrimination against veteren professionals and their abilities over time. You see this in his assertion of Hitech's conditional status combined with the unspoken common knowlege of how long Hitech has been programming in this industry and how old AH is:
Hitech certainly isn't a dummy, but he is as human as they come. Things like that creep up on anyone without being seen, despite whatever blocks/etc they put in the way, time just does that.
This does not constitiute a superior postion to support his original assertions and observations against the game and it's creator. First by assuming a fiat of familiarity to enable declaring Hitech to be his equal, or by time in grade, his inferior through pointing out the obvious: we are all human and have our faults.
We have an unhappy troll in the forum.
-
-1 these wishes are crap :huh
-
On weekends AH gets 500+ sometimes, that is a perfectly fine, tight and healthy community for an MMO. The idea of p2p will kill the game and anger the players - just look at EvE, a dedicated hardcore player base was basically pissed away there for little to no gain, and once that skepticism is introduced, it will never go away (the internet never forgets). So if HiTech has a business model where they milk this game to launch another and another after that (aka WOT style) then it could get that - but - it would be at the cost of this game.
I suppose the real question is - community growth is good, but its better to grow slow and stable then to go for the quick buck - all of the suggestions by the OP are very short sighted.
-
Its only a quick buck if thats what you want from it. Freeing up resources to allocate to other things is never a bad thing; for a company who wants to just rip off its players like WOT, that might end up badly for them, but for HTC: Who knows?
-
On a side not: For those who didn't understand the idea I was trying to make to 'groove with ideas' heres an example:
- Maintain current subscription model + also add f2p to replace the 2 weeks free system. The two can live together quite peacefully while preserving the base subscription expectations.
-
- Maintain current subscription model + also add f2p to replace the 2 weeks free system. The two can live together quite peacefully while preserving the base subscription expectations.
We used to have that. HTC got rid of it since the F2P arenas were used as a test bed for hacking and game exploitation. As far as I know, it's gone for good.

Great to see the old wishlist ideology sticking strong! Heres some tips for the more "strong" of mind.

The problems with microtransactions are how they are implemented for the game. Your example of WoT is an example of how microtransactions improperly implemented that favors the "pay to win" crowd, which basically requires a player to spend money in order to advance to be competitive. On the flip side, you can use the example of a cash shop that is properly implemented from Dungeons and Dragons Online, where the cash shop isn't geared towards the "pay to win" model but rather offers cosmetic and additional content (which is also available in game through grinding for those that don't want to pay) and the player is not put at a disadvantage if they want to grind for those items in game as opposed to pay for it, unlike WoT where the opposite is true.
So basically, saying cash shops/item malls are stupid and dismissing them out of hand is rather silly since the problem isn't the shops themselves but the implementation.

- AH reduces its maintenance costs by turning to a p2p centered networking model (while retaining a persistant world).
Step 1. Reduce cost by about 1% or less- AH switches to a "Free" charging model with micro-transactions for planes above certain ENY.
Step 2. Reduce all revenue to zero- A facebook "Aircraft factory" Casual Game in which players manage a WW2 aircraft factory despite predictable issues. These factories would be bound to each country in-game and effect the supply of planes in-game for each country.
Step 3. Increase cost by increasing development time.
