I spent some time yesterday tuned to the Help channel, answering questions. I think it would be helpful if there was a way to see who is tuned to the help channel. Being welcoming so the new guys feel comfortable asking questions would be easier if you could see who was there. Even better would be if you could see who on the channel is a 2-weeker and most likely to have questions.

I didn't even know there was a help channel...

Channel 6
I believe it is one of the default channels with a fresh install. I was able to help a couple of new guys yesterday with basic questions. One particular guy asked quite a few questions over the course of a couple of hours. I hope that I have improved his AH experience so that he becomes a subscriber.

A 7th HELP tab would be nice. That is it's sole purpose, meaning you wouldn't be able to change it to range, country, etc. You can "turn it off" via a check box in the options menu and that tab will disappear from your radio buffer or gray out. With it on, you can do two things; 1) Have it on so it will show in your first channel or a channel of your choice as well, or, 2) Have it set to where it will only show in the HELP tab.
Example of 1):
Country: Alert 132!
Country: Mission up! Everyone join!
Help: How do I use flaps?
Help: You use q and W for flaps.
Help: q and w
Country: Bombers over our strats
The basic advantage of 1):
You won't have to keep checking the help tab for questions/answers as those questions/answers will show in your primary (first) channel, (which in my case, is set for Country Chat) or a channel of your choice.
The basic disadvantage of 1):
If you don't wish to help that day, only wish to help a little or you wish to hold a conversation over 200, country, etc., it may clog it with the help text.
The basic advantage of 2):
For those who wish to be of help but don't want their primary channel hit with help text. You wish to concentrate on fighting and/or prefer to help when you are in the tower, etc, etc.
The basic disadvantage of 2):
You will have to constantly check the help tab for questions/answers.
With the Help Tab ON, you can use a command like /h prior to your message to respond in the help channel from any text buffer (unless you respond directly in the Help Channel). IE: /h You use q and w for flaps. If you have Help Tab OFF, then using the /h command will give you an error message; You must turn Help Tab ON to use the /h command.
It's a very crude and basic idea, but may be worth looking into.
