Jeb is in hospital following his crash in South Africa. He released footage from the impact today, here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEFCQRwj28w) is the clip. Below is his own explanation of what happened.
"Well the answer is very simple. I was flying to close and messed up :) I was going for a black balloon that was basically laying on the rocks and was going to try and kick it with my foot. In order to do this I had to fly low and flat between boulders. My left foot clipped a boulder that dragged me into a flat ledge that I took at the waist at full speed. If I had not clipped that boulder I might have made it, I might have still impacted. It's very hard to tell from the footage. Everything happens very fast. But when you go for a flight where inches are the difference between making it and not making it well impact is very possible. I knew this and took the risk and paid the price for pushing way to hard. I take full responsibility for my actions and am just happy I still have legs to do rehab on.
This is not my first time getting hurt and it will not be my last. I push it, always have and always will. One day I will die and I just hope that when I do, it will be doing something I truly love...
Jeb
P.S. I want to thank everyone for their support. 99% of you have been very very nice to me :) For the other 1% I agree with you 100%, I am a total dumb bellybutton :) I am human and humans make mistakes. I am sorry for what ever inconvenience I have caused anyone..."

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mr. Corliss.

That was the luckiest escape I've ever seen... The man is indestructable
-
His chute didn't even fully deploy. Very lucky on several accounts there.
-
it was just a matter of time, low, lower, next time even lower.
I dont see a point doing such dangerous things, in flight safety first, but hey if he likes it, its his life.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
(I grounded once too and broke my right leg, i know how long it takes to get back)

This guy is my idle, Glad to hear he's ok! :O

If you watch closely i believe he did a very smart thing. He waited to open the chute until he was just above the ground so the chute deploying acted like a flare and probably saved him from much worse injuries.

He's not ok, but he is alive.
Agreed tmetal, he was reacting quickly to the situation knowing he was possibly fatally injured and did the best of it. The chute did not deploy fully, lines all twisted, possibly because of the impact against the rocks (?). Anyway, despite the two possibly fatal impacts he is alive. Remains to be seen if he will fly again, I for one sure hope he does.
He may be a foolhardy bastard but at least he is trying to achieve something. It is not just about flying low, he is practicing for the run on the landing ramp they are building which he intend to land on without deploying the chute.

! Jeb has been severely injured before and he is no fool, fully aware of the risks he is taking, he did what he could to save his life. In hospital he take no pain killers and go through all procedures without morphine etc. A lot of people consider him insane, I do not.

Which bones did he break? All the articles seem to be the same and simply say 'Legs'.
I hope he recovers quickly but with his mental condition, I can't help but expect him to be cleaned off some rocks before he's old enough for a mid-life crisis.
Don't get me wrong, people like him, and those who are even a lot less daredevilish are responsible for most human achievement since we came down out of the trees. I wish him the best of luck on his next adventure.

He was toejamting on a bed pan for weeks before going to the toilet himself, so they probably had to put his pelvis back together the mechanical way for it to heal. A shattered pelvis = long rehab. He broke his back in a crash few years ago so don't think this will deter him.
-
I don't think it will deter him either. If he was seperated at the trunk I'd fully expect him to be in a hang-glider with landing gear the day he gets out of the hospital. He has counter-phobia after all.
-
:lol Yes that's probable, and a scenario that could end up saving his life. If he could free fall and land in a chute, he would do it and if he could not he would find a way to do it. That's Jeb.

Man that looks like FUN!!!! :rock (minus the smacking the rocks that is) Definately a lucky man :aok
