Title: Horde Races
Post by: Melvin on February 24, 2012, 01:50:32 PM
So I'm just feeling this out to see if there is any interest...

My idea would be to create a custom arena on one of the smaller maps (say uterus). We would then have 2 teams of 8 pilots from the best horde squads come in and race to see who can take five bases in the fastest time.

They would be required to destroy a set number of targets on the field, followed by a town take. They would also be required to take at least one of each base type.

Details are still being hashed out (I literally just thought of this).

Any takers?

That actually sounds kinda fun.

My idea behind it would be to see who actually has the best teamwork and attack skills.

Ack would be up full, and time penalties would be charged to teams for planes getting shot down with lesser penalties for ditches.

Lots of ideas to implement. I'm not even going to think about it yet because the waters seem rather cool.

Only resistance would be the field and town ack?

Great idea. One quibble: I'm not sure if there should be any penalties. Might be better to mimic the MA where there really aren't any. And then death becomes a strategy, might be more interesting. Up to you of course.

I'm basing the idea on ack being the only resistance. This is purely a speed competition where getting the hangars down 1st pass and having troops on ready standby are what matters. Remember, the custom arenas only allow for 16 players, so the teams would only have 7-8 each.

The penalties would be in place to discourage the guys that kamikaze their planes while doing a hangar drop. It's all about sound tactics and getting everybody down safely.

Fair enough. I hope you get some takers, sounds fun.

i'm not sure most horde squads could even take a port with 7-8 people  :D

vMelvin....

 :lol Not hardly.

My intent was to try and brew up a little competition amongst guys that take pride in the smash and grab. I thought they would be interested in actually finding out who is best.

Unfortunately, judging by the lack of response, they have no real interest in finding out how they rate against each other.

I was thinking last night that if we could get some time in the SEA we could have many more combatants on each team, and could also have some defenders.

A sort of "American Gladiators" type challenge.

great idea! if i might make a suggestion, we've done something like this in the AVA. i called it a squad challenge, but you can call it what you want. have them fight each other. turn ack down so they cant hide in it. you'll also need 2 bases of the same type with spawns right to each other.

frame one -- medium base must capture using what ever mean necessary. ie planes, or gv's or whatever
frame 2 --vbase with planes enabled on the vbase. same thing
frame 3 -- vbase gv's only. basically a tank fight.

best 2 out of three wins. we did it several times in the AVA. it was alot of fun. just my 2 cents!

That sounds like fun!  :aok

Here's what I was thinking:

We would have the two teams take off from the same airfield, but head to two different targets.

At T-2 minutes they would be instructed to spawn on their respective runway and shut engines off.

When the CM gives the "GO GO GO GO GO!" they will start engines and head to respective targets. (AHXARL guys know all about this! I believe it's called "Gullgutz" or something.) At this time two official clocks will be started.

The teams can use any means to drop hangars and take their base. When "Field XX has been taken by So and So" that teams clock will stop. An independent judge will be posted at the taken base to record any shoot downs and ditches. The possibility of time penalties will encourage the slower team to finish their objective.

After both bases have been taken and time penalties added up, the whole process will start over (after a small break for refreshments, of course). Only this time they will swap bases for the take.

After the second mission has been completed, times will be averaged and the winning team will be announced.

If the arena allows, their will be 2-3 defenders at the target bases. They will stay at their respective field for the course of the event. They will also be limited to using FM-2's or Brewsters or similar type aircraft.

Many more details to hash out... I'm bored.

because this smacks of "competition" and the best smash a grab groups out the AVOID any competition.

Rearm is ok.

Which means 80% of the squads get knocked out on the first pass when they auger into hangers :D

OMG, is this what the current "game mechanics" and "style of play" have brought some to contemplate?  :huh

JUGgler

Yes Jugler, the game allows creativity and gameplay that caters to those that want a specific mission in an area that certainly does not interfere with how you are playing.

C'mon man, don't be a griefer.  There are plenty of guys that do play the way you play.
