Title: Guns America
Post by: Selino631 on February 26, 2012, 05:33:35 AM
hey, im looking at buying a WW2 or Korean war era M1 Carbine as well as a modern day Czech CZ-75 9mm pistol. I found a website called http://www.gunsamerica.com/ (http://www.gunsamerica.com/) and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this website. i've never bought a firearm before so im not sure if i would just buy it as if i was on Amazon or Ebay, and then i would receive it in the mail or if there is something else i'd have to do? any advice would be appreciated.

And i live in Fairbanks, Alaska. so i know gun laws are pretty easy up there. thanks.

Pretty sure you have to have it sent to an establishment with a Class III, and probably have to pay some sort of transfer fee to make it worth their while.

I work (occasionally) for a good friend that owns an indoor range / gunstore. (dont think ive ever collected a paycheck there, i always find some way to "reinvest" it back into the store"  :D

The process is easy. What you will need to do is let your gunstore know that your buying a firearm from this person, they the seller will need the info from you regarding where you want it shipped. What we usually do is tell our customers to give the seller our name, address, phone# and fax#. WHat then occurs is the seller will contact your gunshop, request a copy of their FFL. In turn we send a copy to him, he sends a copy to us. The gun is paid for by you, the firearm is shipped via FEDEX or something similar, then we take care of running the backround check (in PA its a phone call called a PICS check) and the 4473 form for the feds.  We then charge you for doing the paperwork. Its a fairly easy process

One thing to note..........after buying the gun, paying for shipping and paying for your backround check and paperwork, ive found that it costs less to go to your local gunshop and order the gun then purchase it off the internet. I had a gent that recently purchased a Wilson Combat CQB 45 off the internet and if he would have just ordered it thru us it would have saved him about $35................just food for thought, any questions you have let me know, im glad to help out

On a side note, hope Army life is treating you well, and thank you for doing it  :aok

Class 3's are for things like full automatics, suppressors, cannons, cool stuff like that.

This is correct.  Any dealer with a FFL will do for a legal transfer.

Yup, just find someone with a FFL and give the seller his info.  :aok

On a side note, Carbines are pretty fun little guns, especially with a 30rd mag!  :devil

Don't know much about the CZ except people seems to like em.

Happy shooting!

No sir.    That is for Auto's, Suppressors and Machine Guns.    Also, it is a $200 one time Excise Fee IIRC.

I believe the M1 Carbine would be purchased/considered as a "Curio/Relic Firearm".

There is more than one gun auction site. Gunbroker.com is another one.

I hope you realize that WW2 era real military carbines are not all that common nor cheap any more. The ammo isn't the least expensive either but is very easy to reload. Do not get caught by someone selling a universal carbine (commercial copy) as a military carbine. They are not the same. In all seriousness you could buy a good lever action rifle in something like 30-30 cheaper and have more available ammo.

You've been given some good info regarding the FFL transfer. The shops do charge for that service as they are doing the actual transfer to you and the fed paperwork as well as any local paperwork, depending on where you live. Where I am from the rates range form a low of $25 to as much as $50 per weapon transfer.

I Think the M1 still has to be FFL Jay.

Indeed, I was addressing the need for the Class III thing.    Yes, the seller would contact Selino's "FFL Shop/Broker".

The M1 is a lot of fun to shoot but ammo has gotten allot more expensive in the past 10 years. I believe it's because the surplus ammo is all gone.
Mine was manufactured by General Motors in 12/43 and belonged to my Dad. Unfortunately the 30 round clips were banned here in Cal and can only use 10rd.

Have Fun,

Just for the law abiding folk.  The criminal types can still use anything they want to.   :D

I'm just joshing around a bit.  I'm sure the ban lowered the crime rate significantly and drastically improved California society in general.

Yep thetax stamp is required each time you purchase a class 3 firearm....be it a full auto weapon, supressor or a firearm whose barrel length is below the legal size.

yea the main reason i wanted a M1 Carbine is more of a collectors item, but i do want a original. i would use the CZ-75 for just recreation shooting since 9mm ammo is relativity cheap.

If you want a M-1 carbine you can obtain an original at CMP.

http://www.odcmp.com/

These are are original guns. I got a M-1 Garand last year for $350. it was heavily used so I bought the brand new replacement barrel for 85$

The only M1 Carbines left are a group of rack grade Bavarians, and they are being auctioned for a fortune.  The surplus lot ran out a long time ago.

well you cant buy a gun and have it shipped to your house unless you have the proper permits.usually a background check is required unless you are buying privately.(from a friend or gunshow etc). you will have to have it shipped to a licenced FFL dealer.

They're still banned in CA?  I thought all those state/local laws were struck down as unconstitutional.
