I see a lot of good idea's on this forum and most have excellent merit! How about a fleet of 4 submarines located on the four corners of the CV fleet, yet you would be able to go into the cockpit from the hangar, just as you do with a aircraft. It WOULD not be able to submerge as a real sub, but you could steer it with rudder and have throttle control on the two engines, just like a PT boat. Armed with 4 torpedo's and a 5 inch deck gun, and a conning tower with quad .50cals. You would be able to break away from the "mother" fleet and attack another CV group, shell airbases or towns or shore batteries! I think it would add something to the already great game which we have! Just think, now you would have the option of not only a aerial attack by aircraft, but a "stealth" demon as well. Of course you would be able to destroy them just as with any of the ships now in AH. From what I have heard in the past and read in actual history of combat of subs, most attacks were carried out on the surface, not the underwater attacks that Hollywood would have us believe. Does that sound interesting to anyone? With the ability of having four "pilots", you could create your own "wolf pack".

*You're confusing your world wars.
**A surfaced sub would have no more stealth quality than a PT boat and about the same offensive capability - minus the speed and manueverability.
I don't think Aces High has water depth modeled to make subs a practical idea.
Give Silent Hunter IV a try.

No, I am not confusing the world wars! The stealth that I mentioned was the fact that with a low profile, it would be hard to see on the surface from another ship! I don't have the figures right here in front of me, but the Germans and Japanese had many, many submarines and so did the U.S. Navy after the industrial complex ramped up and started producing our subs. It would be a "surface" vessel only and would be no different than any other surface ship in AH, except you would be able to "steer" it and do different things with it, I.E., wolf packs, shelling shore batteries, towns, airbases and etc. It would just add another element to the game!

I think the issue that the other posters have with the idea is that they want an AIR COMBAT game, and anything else that dilutes the game to be more of a "virtual battlefield" game is just....well....bad. Period.
I don't think that way. I'm fine with having a a virtual battlefield. We have one, though 90% of it is air combat. It is possible that a game could be played completely by using nothing but tanks, but that isn't what the game was supposed to be, and it isn't why people signed up to play.

Not a very good one, due to the inability to submerge. It's not an effective shore bombardment platform, again, it has no more of a 'stealth/low profile' advantage than a PT boat. It's offensive capability, as a surface craft, isn't really much better than a PT (and if you take into account the speed and maneuverability of the Elco PT, it's worse). The submarine's advantage was the ability to make submerged attacks. It's biggest contribution to the Allied effort was sinking a great deal of the Japanese merchant fleet .... and participating in some sinkings of IJ capital warships (as well as scouting and rescue-special forces insertion operations .... none of which is necessary in AHII).
U.S. submarine doctrine prohibited daylight surface attack. It only became more prevalent at night, later in the second world war, and even then it was not generally recommended due to the increase of armed merchants.
I don't agree that it'd make a good addition to Aces High, as the game is .... nor am I prone to think it's worth HT's time and effort, considering other elements that would actually make sense to pursue.
But I do still think you'd probably like SHIV.

Aces High isn't designed to be WWII Online. And when it comes to air combat, WWII Online doesn't hold a candle to Aces High. It really is that simple. It's not a 'prejudice' thing at all. A fair amount of the community crosses over to various games for various experiences. The ones who enjoy the design and depth of Aces High for what it's designed to be, stay here to enjoy what it is. The wishlist will always include elements that aren't practical. Often the same ones, over and over again. *ShruG* Good luck with that, I say. If HT latches onto that and somehow makes it work, great. But making up reasons as to why it's such a 'great addition', given the game limitations that prohibit such an addition from being so, will most likely not sell the idea, IMO.
