We have a test version of AH with some fixes we've been working on. We'd like to get some people to try out before we release it for real. We're looking for any performance or stability issues. Please note that Alt F4 does not work with this version. It will work again when we do the real release.
This test version has some changes to reduce the memory footprint and make it a lot harder to run out of memory.
This fixes a crash bug that can happen when you're logging onto server.
This uses a new terrain downloader that runs at a much faster speed.
To run the test version, download it directly into your HiTech Creations\Aces High folder and run the file acestest.exe.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Thanks for the hard work. This might get rid of the stutters my machine aquired with last update. :D
-
Also please move all or some of your terrains to a different folder or delete them . And then test the new terrain download portion. It should be a GREAT deal faster.

You need to place the file in your Aces High folder. If you run it from somewhere else you will get the missing mss32.dll error.

something is wrong with mine as 1 item doesnt download on the contril i screen and the right side of my 3 monitor set up doesnt display properly.
here's a picture using my cell phone as if I take a picture from with ah (alt s) it looks normal.

Ran the test version tonight with no problems. Didn't have any problems with the regular version either.

Guncrasher, is it that way every time you run it?

When I try to adjust the "Ground Detail Range" ,up or down, the mouse freezes for about 15 seconds and the says "Disabling Advanced Graphics" offline.
When on-line in the LW Main arena I get the same messsage and then "Stop Receiving UDP. Switching to TCP" message.
When going back to non test version of the game wheather trying to go on or offline, I get the preloading box for about .1 seconds and then the clipboard cycles back
over and over again. Reinstalling AH2272 fixed that problem. stdshapes.res did take a while to reinstall.
XP SP3 32bit, E8400 CPU, GTX260 w/182.5 driver 4GB RAM Nvidia settings are Application Controlled. 1920x1200, 108 field of view, 1024 textures, 1 notch of AA
object and ground detail about half, display horizon is the only box checked, in advanced settings all are checked on except local water and self shadow, 512 shadow textures
As a side note. the only way to get out of the game when the mouse freezes is to reboot the computer.

Did you delete the terrain?

Yes, Allowed the game to download the new terrian. Fast download by the way

Three things I noticed using the executable.
1.} Being within Icon range of airfeilds lowered my FPS from 59-60 to 40-50 while very few other aircraft were around. As I flew farther from the airfeild my frame rate held 59-60 looking forward but reduced to 40-50 if I looked back at the feild during auto climbout. I expect the 40's during base attacks or heavy activity at a base. While the frame rate was in the 40's there were now no micro stutters.
2.} The 1-3 second voice intitiated lockup I sometimes get became a voice stutter over VOX.
3.} The same for 1-3 second freezes that appered to be the result of something loading or processing in video.
Shadows, funny water and funny grass in/out of the cockpit turned off.
All bump mapping on.
Detail slider max.
Max range of view.
Show other plane skins off.
MaxFeildof view=110
All soundcard 3D effects disabled. Generic PCI RocketFish SB OEM.

sorry i got everything on with shadows at 2048. and ground clutter disabled while in flight. i forgot which terrain. but it was in the main arena. that same day i was playing. I had removed all my terrain and d/l the new one d/l was pretty fast. I relog using the normal way to log in and it went away.
hopefully sombody can identify the map based on the clipboard. that's a pic of the lower right corner of the map.

Do you have vsync on or off?
Also have you messed with your back buffer count in the video settings?

Thanks to everyone who has tried out the test version and reported back. We are still wanting as many people as possible to test it out. If you can try it out over the weekend and report back on it, it would be greatly appreciated. :salute

Also, the terrain downloader was really fast and placed everything where it is supposed to be.
Let you know more as the weekend progresses.

hitech I tested again and my 3rd monitor displays the same thing offline or online. offline it finished downloading all the object but online there's always showing 1 not downloaded.
what it appears is that my 3rd monitor doesnt show the fulll settings like on the other two. I checked off every option in detailed terrain and started adding one by one. I must deselect everything then start adding 1 box at a time not untill I add the self shadows that the problem shows up on my 3rd monitor. even if I change my view using either trakir it wont make a difference as now whatever the 3rd monitor is desplaying is in low resolution. I should also mention that if I work my way down slowly deselecting options nothing changes unless I deselect everything. then work my way up. hope this makes sense.
I also found another bug: if you go to video settings option in ah then you cannot have the "auto set filed of view" to auto since it displays 152 and I guess you havent changed the max setting yet. you must set the custom field of view manually to 145.

Played for 3 hours tonight.
No visible anomolies, no flight issues, frame rate was solid...interestingly, my video cards (SLI'd 460s) fans didn't ramp up like they normally do. Checked the temp and it was about 8C lower than usual. I run 1024 with everything max'd except shadowing and its because I don't like it...it runs fine.
For me it ran smooth as silk. Nice :salute

at the max 2048 and self shadows at 1024. In normal ah I have them at 2048 self shadow with no problems.

The test version defaults to 152 for me and displays 152 but if I try to set it manually I get a message for any setting over 145 as being out of range. When I set it to default it goes to 152 and I still get the out of range message. If I cancel the video setting window AH runs at what I believe is 152 since it's noticeably wider than 145.

The game stutters a bit (lag) and i am offline I cant get online because My trail and The payment is to expensive for one month so my parent wont register me yet so the most i will do is try and help you Hitech and Pyro

Faster download for Montis, although not as fast as reported for others, was still a noticeable difference as I tried it with both versions.
Now, there was a problem with Custom Arenas. I tried to upload / Create an arena and the result was loop back to Main Menu (not a bad, exit choice, because it didn't crash my connection).
I don't know if this test was supposed to include Custom Arenas, :headscratch: but I was curious and wanted to test it along with an idea from Pokee, for "Chariots of FIRE" where everything blows up REAL GOOD :D using machine guns. :rock
Will be glad to test further for Custom Arenas as well if needed. All else is running smoothly. :salute

I have more CTD's with this version than patch2.

Runs fine here - haven't noticed any new problems.

Potential severe glitch: Game HANGS on change of graphic detail second slider.
I was able to increase the second slider (I believe that is the object detail range, I forget which) in order to do a bomber run with no problem. When I attempted to reduce it again with the same slider it freezes the game. Duplicated the problem in different maps and arenas.

Potential severe glitch: Game HANGS on change of graphic detail second slider.

Increasing or decreasing "Ground Detail Range" instantly freezes "acestest.exe" on my rig.
No such problem with "aceshigh.exe"

Severe hang up while using Ground Detail Range setting. In between screen freezes, a message shows in the text buffer "Disabling Advanced Graphic Settings"

When making any adjustments to scaling, stick assignments or calibration, the game kinda does what it wants to until you log and log back in. I GV'd for a bit tonight and wanted to map a button and when I did, the GV just moved forward on its own. When I logged and came back it was fine until I did it again and then we were off to the races. Also, when I went to the tank gunsight, it stopped doing it without logging.

Also noted that changes to controller mapping did not take effect until I logged off and back in again. More specifically, the mapping for my channel vox button, change was recorded in the clipboard when map controller window was pulled up, but the change never took place (so it looked normal, as if change occured, but no change took effect until complete reboot of acestest). So, I am considering this to be the same issue that Changeup is reporting.

With one exception. I calibrated my rudder pedal axis and the axis calibration caused the rudders to be locked left. Even with a relog, I was stuck rudder left. I recalibrated the entire rig and logged. Then it reset
