Title: Industrial Capacity of the Enemy Capitals and increase in reward for hitting it
Post by: Volron on February 29, 2012, 09:18:40 PM
I know that both of these have been mentioned in other threads, but I don't recall seeing a thread dedicated to these specifically.  So here goes...

ONE:
I propose that the Industrial Capacity of the Enemy Capital's be added into the Win The War Requirements.  As we know, the Capitals are not hit very often for obvious reasons.  It takes effort (which is good, don't want it to be easy after all) to do the required damage to be felt by that side.  The other thing is that the reward (which is key to most folks) for hitting it is so very low.  With it being added to the win the war requirements, we would see more flights to the Capital.  Bomber guys get an objective to complete that doesn't involve hangers, towns and cv's; bomber interceptors get more bombers to attack vs the usual 1-2 sets we run into (or at least what I run into :lol), and then there are guys that like to escort bombers.

I would propose that the requirement on the damage inflicted be around the following:

Industrial Center: 19% or less
Outlying Factories: Ords, Dar, Ack, Troops and Fuel: 19% or less

This is a heavy handed approach to the idea.  If considered too heavy, then what if the Outlying Factories requirement be around 30%?

The goal is to add more fighting across more of the map, particularly around and above the Capital.  Even if they horde the Capital, I think THAT would be neat as we'd see (hopefully) large bomber streams.  The thing to take into account is, more than likely they would end up taking one of the bases that would push it BACK into 163 territory.  So when they come in at 30k; really, how is that going to matter to a 163? :devil  But even if they do avoid making that mistake, I find the 152 the do beautifully up there. :aok  It won't bother furballer's and gv's as they'll still be able to do their thing and disregard the raids on the Capitals, as it will probably be the last thing hit to win the war.  It will make it harder to win the war without increasing the number of bases required (I think 20% is good), so some of those small maps will stay up a little longer (remember, the Capital is in 163 territory from the get go :devil).  Won't affect the large maps as I haven't seen one of them reset recently, except through HTC's hand (though I haven't been playing a lot recently either).  As for the win the war types, it will be a change of pace from the standard smash and grab to win the war. :aok

TWO:
Increase the perks awarded for hitting the Capital.  This particular wish is one I wish to see done, regardless if the first one is implemented or not.  I would say at least a 50% increase in my opinion, even if you ended up landing less damage as the pay off.

They gave you the B29 and now you want something to bomb too? and you want it to matter? Will it never end?

Okay...

One thing I've learned VERY quickly about the B-29... I stand a FAR better chance upping a 262 and fly it over 3 CV groups clumped up nice and tight until I ran low on fuel and RTB'ed than to make a single pass over a Capital in a formation of B-29's.  There are times I will up a lone B-29 and TRY to do 5 runs on a Capital.  I have yet to make it through the 3rd sortie.... :bhead  Even so, I STILL say the flak is very light for the target type. :noid

Bar, I am (now) aware of the subject line being a LITTLE too long.  Ya know, just a nudge. :lol  That being said, when I think about the prospect of large bomber groups making their way to a Capital.... :joystick: :x   Maybe, just maybe, the 91st and other bomber dedicated groups would like the change.  I recall seeing one of the 91st mention that it really isn't worth the effort (other than to just do it for the hell of it) to hit a Capital as it doesn't accomplish much and the rewards are low.  This is true, currently.  The idea I laid out would change that (hopefully).

My plan for it to be truly successful; it would need to be done in one go, and in waves: (a basic plan is better than no plan after all :))

1st Wave: Hit the Industrial Center. GOAL: 19% or less
2nd Wave: Back up the 1st wave, hit Secondary otherwise. GOAL: IF 1st wave fails to bring IC to 19% or less, hit IC. IF 1st wave succeeds, hit Outlying strats
3rd Wave: Hit Outlying Strats. GOAL: Reduce Outlying strat output to required percentage

In that order would be the size of the bomber groups as well. Ideally, there would be 3 sets of bombers per Outlying strat.  30 bombers total with the Outlying strats as an objective.  30 for the IC alone.  Waves would be roughly one sector apart to allow more time to line up on targets.  Did I mention large bombers streams earlier? :D  Now could you imagine escorting something like that Bar?

The reason behind it is, if the IC is NOT reduced to 19% or less when the bombs hit the outlying strats, the damage inflicted prior to the IC reaching 19% or less may very will recover instead of sticking.  This plan would insure that when bombs hit the Outlying strats, that the damage will stick.

And yes, I am being optimistic about the idea. :)  Will I hold my breath?  No. :(  I am waiting to see if there will be counters to the idea.  Maybe something that could make it a better one as well.  There ARE cons to it, I just bloody well can't think of any other than the time/development requirement. :o  Otherwise, it's not an outlandish request and has some merit. :)

I have yet to make it through the 3rd sortie.... :bhead

I think the maximum I have achieved is seven rearms. I had more once but the map was reset before I could land it.

Strats are the worst thing to bomb you know? But if you are above 37k puffy wont even fire at you... 262s are out of motivation to get up to you... even the 152s will find it very tough to deal with (unless they have high alt experience that is).

I'll be waiting in my tank just outside of flashing range of the city for the strat raids to cover my ingress.

I don't worry about interceptors.  I don't go above 30k, so I run into the occasional interceptor.  None who were willing to set up properly, so the result was a free kill for me. :devil  What keeps getting ME is the puffy. :bhead  But I didn't know that flying above 37k prevented puffy.  Learnin, and learnin. :)  I don't mind the occasional interceptor though, and the puffy does make it more interesting. :aok  The thing is, I don't get as much trouble with it when I'm flying a B-17 or B-24.  Probably because they fly so slow vs the B-29? :headscratch:

You may find that the ack on those towers have a LONG reach.  If you do that, may want to take something with HEAVY armor, like a Tiger or King Tiger.  I remember at one point, a group of use actually launched a bunch of LVT's at a Capital.  I know they are not the best things to go in with, but with a cv parked right off of it, we couldn't resist. :x  That stuff ate us while we were still a ways out. :bhead  I don't think we were in firing range yet either... :noid  But it was sure fun to try. :joystick: :x

M4 with the rockets is the best city destroyer.

I drive one to the city a few times in every tour.

i love the idea im a nit and i hate saying this kinda stuff any where but we have big problem with defence we start out great then it always turns into a furball and i maybe 2 others will join me (if im lucky) will attempt to pork enemy fields once its done the furball keeps goin and the enemy moves to a diff base and takes it undefended except for a select few who will leave the furball to defend.......but if theres an HQ raid the nits up like hornets for the easy buff kills. with that being said If HTC would incorporate your plan/plans then the nits would have a standing chance to defend against the onslaught we face everyday so i say +1.....billion :D<S>  for the great idea i think it would bring balance
