Title: Enemy CV parked too close
Post by: caldera on March 01, 2012, 06:04:58 PM
As absurd as enemy puffy hitting you over your own field sounds, how about catching auto-ack over land too?
Flying under 3k over friendly turf and the freaking ack is shooting at me.  WTF?

From last night.  Whatever map this is called:

I'm guessing that has to be manned puffy if you're under 3k

Sounds like the cannon cockers are doing a good job defending their floating home.

It's rough when a savvy boat driver knows where to find the deep water close to land. Best thing to do is attack.

Attack ATTACK ATTACK

Some maps they get the CV's so close to shore that the auto guns are hitting you from the escort ships as soon as you spawn on to the runway.

Shoot back.

Sometimes you have to fly from another field.

Sometimes it pays to be proactive and hit the CV's before they get that close.

Saw that a while ago, jumped in the shore battery, started getting hits. Got asked on 200 not to sink the carrier- responded with "sure, if you move it out a bit to stop ack over the field". Got told, we dont have to - so proceeded to sink it to make a point. Childish, yep, you betcha, satisfying, yep, you betcha. They could have taken it out of the sb  firing arc, but preferred to have it close going up and down in view of the sb.

Example I am talking about I had just logged on & noticed big DAR bar & didn't look beyond that.

Spawn boom dead. :D

Almost same thing happened to me last night in MW, don't remember what base it was.. Think it was A72, but anyway.. I was landing on this base and all of a sudden I had flak shelling all around me, but it stopped when I got myself below 3k. I started turning my plane in for a landing on the runway and then the auto guns started blazing in across the field from the ships. Managed to land and end my sortie before I got hit, and jumped straight into the 8" and set the cv on fire and kept shelling it till they went out of range..

Then I noticed the cv was heading towards one of our own cv's, so I jumped into the triple 8's of that and continued the chase.  :aok

Ordinance from a boat is supposed to stop functioning when it goes over land? Using that logic, if you take a plane up from an airfield, do the bombs disarm when they get over water? I'm not entirely clear on what the problem is.  If the ship was farther out in the water, and you were flying the same distance away from it, it would still shoot you.  Right? But it would be ok cause you are not over land? Sorry, not being argumentative, I just honestly have no idea what the problem is you are pointing out.

There are many liberties taken with the use of battle implements, that are well outside the normal scope of what they actually did during "teh war".  This one annoys me enough to make a whine thread because of it.  The problem lies with having an aircraft carrier (which was a stand off weapon inclined to keep it's distance from the enemy) used for auto ack aircraft suppression over an enemy field.   Maybe the maps should have moats around the towns, so a CV group can pull right up to the McDonald's and order a Happy Meal.

I would rejoice, up a tank, and sink the cv.
