The churchill was one of the most important British tanks in ww2 ( sherman does not count because those were under loan from the U.S.). It first had action in 1942 in Dieppe. After lessons learned there, the British upgraded the 40mm main gun to a 57mm and then a 75mm main gun taken from Sherman tanks. Its heavy armour and robust running gear helped it to survive even severe damage and rough terrain. By 1945, a grand total of 5460 Mk. IV tanks have been built. Weight: 44.8 tons; crew: 5, Dimensions: length: 297 in., width: 128 in; height: 98 in.; engine: Bedford twin-six, water cooled, 21,100 cc, 350 hp.; Power to weight ratio: 7.8hp/ton; Max. speed: 15 mph road, 8 mph cross- country; Armament: 1 3 in. gun, 2 .3 MG; armour: .7-5.9 in.

A tank with the same gun as a 75 Sherman and 10 mph slower? No thanks

I do recall reading that the Churchill's hill climbing speed was much better than the Sherman's due to the gear ratios.

It was slightly better, but overall slower top speed. Churchill offers better armor protection for same gun as a Sherman 75 or the earlier version with a 57mm.
Also has a few infantry support versions, one I believe a 95mm gun, not used against tanks however. The Crocodile version would be quite fun to tinker with, had a flamethrower and 75mm cannon, although the range on the flamethrower being 30-60meters top would mean you have to sit on top of a town building to do any damage.

You forgot the 290mm Petard mortar for raping towns with. Too bad it only had a 100 yard range. :)
IMO, there are 28 other GV's that could/should be added before the Churchill. :)

I agree there are a few, but Churchill, Crusader and cromwell are in the lead for me (for brit tanks), Cromwell tank gets my vote for speed at 40mph, crappy 76mm gun though. Churchill is a nice trade for the M4-75 with its versatility (given the many varients) and much better armor protection.
Crusader is a nice toy to play with early war :)

thanks. i was going to add the Cromwell and crusader but didn't think no one would like them being the crusader too thinly armoured.

David, do you have a subscription? before you start posting late war monsters like the JadgPanther, remember are you going to have the perks for it? same with the JagdTiger and ISU-152 and Su-100.
