Why would you move somewhere with no job prospects? Just curious for the motives in something that I wouldn't do...

Had a well paying job in the UK (top 5% kinda deal), but wife wanted to move to be closer to her Father - who lives in 29 Palms (well, just outside to be more accurate), so we saved, got the visa's etc, and moved. Sold the house in the UK and made a bit of money - plus have my UK forces pension (medical discharge, so no tax in the UK or US)
It was a bit of bad planning on my part on the job front, but started my own business (mobile computer repair etc) to make a bit of money and give me something to do. Also started a band, and we're gigging every week or so, so that gives me more things to do too.
Neither of us were happy in the UK, wife got a lot of grief from neighbours/random people, purely for being American - which disimpressed me etc, so quality of life wasn't there. Since moving here, I've got some excellent friends, and now have a job with promotion prospects etc - so all is good.
Good question tho Sluggish.

Nicely done Sir :)
Yer gonna love 29 Palms area
.. ya don't hafta shovel sunshine in the dead o' winter,
yer cars won't rust,
you can unbolt somethin twenty years after you bolt it together,
dirt bike-ATV heaven,
you can plan a picnic months in advance (it'll be sunny, a bit warm, no umbrella required, etc)
Just fulla win-wins :)
And hey, Chino airfield still has that killer museum with Piccadilly Lily parked out front and some awesome shows now an then.

A big CONGRATS!!
I was unemployed for 3+ years! It was unbelievable to me. I finally took a job at Walmart. Which was quite an experience but I was glad to have it. Then about 5 weeks ago I got a job in my field. It was a huge relief.

Same here but I never did manage to find anything else in this area.
