Virtual reality that doesn't suck (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2012/03/virtual-reality-that-doesnt-suck-my-time-inside-half-life-2.ars)
1080p resolutions on screens less than an inch wide. Even 2048x1536 soon. Actual commercial hardware isn't here yet, but for the first time usable resolutions may be here soon.

cool stuff, I wonder why they have a TrackIR on the monitor in the picture.

I'd guess the HMD doesn't have motion tracking. Cool stuff.

This is the one I'm keeping an eye on. Evidently, a new version will have adjustable transparency

I think we are finally getting close to usable VR technology

I've been using VR with AH for 6 years now.
Neither of the above solutions are where things are heading, Vuzix have licensed Waveguide optics (from Nvidia I think) and Waveguide will eat all existing VR displays alive.

I know you used the emagin Z800.
I had the Vuzix VR920, I couldn't read text with it. Just didn't consider it worthwhile, I never tried the emagin as it was like 1500 bucks.
I suppose I should say we are getting closer to affordable VR technology that doesn't suck.

I think the Sony HMZ-T1 looks pretty ok. 720p is pretty close to good enough IMO, though obviously more is better. One of my squaddies has one, says the eyepieces are a bit close together so if you've got widely spaced eyes I'd suggest to try before you buy.
Still, for $600 or so it's not a bad thing. I doubt I'd use the 3D with AH as my squaddie said it was less than great. No head tracking either.

I now have the Vuzix Wrap 1200, it has it's pro's and con's.

Id recommend the Sony HMZ-T1 for more casual things, like the xbox or ps3...
Where it really shines is in games like bf3 where you bring your headset + xbox over to a friends house and you both use an attack heli.
