Title: Warthog Pictures
Post by: Hamltnblue on March 14, 2012, 05:13:52 PM
When I opened the box holding my new toy (Thrustmaster Warthog) I was a little surprised by it's size. (Keep the jokes to a minimum)
When reading the reviews I didn't see any pics set-up as a size reference.  So for those thinking of getting one of these babies, here they are.
First is an overall shot.  The monitor is 23 inch.

The throttle is a monster(nice monster). Here it is next to my mouse.

Here's the Joystick:

Here's a few more pics of the Throttle showing buttons etc from different angles.

The Lighting has a standard military look:

You can take the yellow arrows off now that you've successfully docked.  :D

Funny thing is, now that I've been using mine for a few weeks, the arrow on the grip has rotated about 45 degrees and now points off into a weird direction.   :rofl

Haven't even paid attention to the arrows.  I guess they put them there so people wouldn't put the joystick on backwards.

Make sure you get the firmware update.  Also, tech support told me to be certain that all switches on the throttle are switched downward when you install the firmware updates.

Heee that is funny. When I got mine from SimHQ after winning it I didn't know it had arrows on it since mine didn't have any. I guess they had some problems with people in the first few hundred that went out and decided to avoid the problems.

Anyway having had one since November 2010 I love the thing.

Do you use track ir in DCSA10? If so I need some pointers if you have a few minutes one night. I use the same settings in it as Aces High.  In aces high it works great but in DCS A10 my seated view is like I am like 7 feet tall looking down at my instrument panels.

Have you tried zooming in with the keypad or leaning back, hitting TIR center, then sitting normally?

Another setting that affects field of view, if you use 3 monitors, is selecting 3 monitors or 1 monitor in the video setup. The 1 monitor selection gives you a narrower field of view when used with 3 monitors.

Word on the street is that the X65 doesn't work well for this type of aircraft.  Before I bought my Warthog, I read everything I could find about several high end sticks.  Didn't read much good about the X65.

So how many of you guys with the Warthog have had problems with delamination of the anti friction ring in the stick?  Just curious as to how common this is and whether or not TM has fixed it yet.  A squadmate has had it happen to him after a few months playing.  Issue is discussed here: http://www.warthogworld.com/hangar/showthread.php?65-Delamination-of-Anti-friction-Buffer-Ring (http://www.warthogworld.com/hangar/showthread.php?65-Delamination-of-Anti-friction-Buffer-Ring)
I'd probably be all over this stick if not for this problem so I'm hoping that TM comes up with a production fix.

Nothing like that on mine yet, but mine is still pretty new really.

Have had mine since November 2010 and haven't noticed the delamination problem that others have talked about.

I see no problem with it. It seems like a low rate problem which is understandable with the amount of movement in a stick. If all it takes is an o-ring replacement I wouldn't worry too much.

I personally know of more buttons quit responding than I do of delamination.

Also it doesn't look that difficult to remedy according to the link provided. I would imagine the hardest part would be finding the teflon.

If demand was high enough I would be tempted to make replacement rings, but I don't see the demand.

New company I represent has sources for Teflon rings and seals to go into ball valves of all sizes and I talked with the guy yesterday and he can get them fairly cheap in small quantites as long as we have a drawing.

I would pitch in a few bucks to get one for a back up, just in case.

I would as well... but I would need a tutorial on how to replace the ring. I am hesitant to take the stick apart without one.

There are a couple of links that show how to do it. The process is quick and easy.
There isn't a reason to do anything if you aren't having a problem and very few have been noted.
I would just enjoy the stick and not worry about it. But if you ever do have the ring issue the stick still works fine and will do so while you get a new ring.
By the way there's even a warthog forum available.

Here's another link with step by step pictures of a disassembly.

I am going to see if I can get a replacement from TM as a baseline and then send it to the guy that makes these Teflon seals for us to see if he can get some pricing and availability. I don't want to cannibalize my stick just to pull out a perfectly good ring seal.
