I keep hear/reading about folks who have their video settings on full and wondered what they are talking about.

every single box checked in the game including ground clutter. antialiasing at 100% and shadows at 8096.

The biggest problem a lot of people are making right now is setting everything to max and expecting their $$$ video card to handle it. Simply put, I don't think there's much out there that can handle "full boat" settings just yet... at least not for most of us.
Even with a great video card you may have to do the following:
-Disable shadows on other planes
-Turn shadows down to 4096
-Turn AA (Anti-Aliasing) down a notch or two from max

yeah if you can play at 60 fps with all boxes on and smooth shadows at least at 1024 (forget ground clutter) I would consider that "maxed out". specially with cv ack alll kinds of fires going on hundreds of planes in the air. that is a great card/system you have.
but what some people consider a great system diferers from others who dont think some of the eye candy is worth it. so basically, it's not if you can play with the game "maxed out" but more like are you happy with what you see. if you are happy with it then you are "maxed out" :).

I have a quad core with 8 gig of memory and a HD 6970 and I still don't have all the boxes clicked :old:
That reflections setting is very moody in my opinion.
I have the shadows on 1024 because it looks better :)
I like ground clutter :)

Here is an example of the video settings. This happens to be the way I had the recent AH Beta configured:
