Title: AH won't boot up...
Post by: JunkyII on March 19, 2012, 01:34:31 PM
Got back from ST Pattys day to find AH won't load.....white screen then gives the message it's not responding.

I heard there was some file that had to be removed on some systems but I couldn't find the correct thread.

 :salute

The file you are referring to was fixed in the patch before this last one and only caused a crash when you selected an arena.

If you are not getting the splash screen then something else is interfering with the game.  Or something has corrupted the game.  Try renaming the "settings" folder and see if it starts.

Is it crashing before you see the opening screen?

If so, you need to run a DXDIAG.  The opening screen is pretty basic.  If it is crashing there, then it normally means a driver is missing.  Check the sound and display tabs in DXDIAG.  Make sure the display tab is not showing the error about D3D not being available.

Well I tried running it again and a message popped up about no Sound drivers detected, sounds disabled then it froze again.

EDIT, will be getting DXDIAG shortly

Saying my sound card isn't detected.....it's got me stumped

If DXDIAG cannot find your sound card, then it is usually because the drivers are not installed, or the device has been disabled.

The game does require a functional sound card in order to run.

Did you allow Windows update to update a driver?  Bad mojo WILL happen if you did.

This is weird. I have Win7 64 sp1. For grins and giggles I ran the DX 9c update. Radeon ATI 6770.

When I goto zoom now in the game I'm getting much crisper and clearer details on vehicals and aircraft. I was plinking at an M4 drone on a feild with an 88 and was surprised to see armored glass ports in the small hatch bulge on top of the main turret. Before I ran the DX update I had only seen the tiney hatch with no armored glass windows in it.

What makes this a surprise to me, this is a standard zoom test I do with the 88 on NDisles at A1 from the same 88 I always use shooting at an M4 400 yards away. Until I ran the update those armored windows were never rendering.

Just remember if any of you guys choose to do this update. First run a system restor point to fall back to if it causes unforseen problems.

DX11 is backwards compatible with DX9 games but it doesn't work as well as installing the latest version of DX9. This will not replace or screw up your DX11 installation. They are happy to coexist on your PC.

Now I'm wondering what else I've missed in the game becasue it didn't render under DX11's backwards compatability. Or will this aleviate some number of problems due to to it. The brown wood grips on the turret 50cal even looked like brown wood on full zoom from 400 yards in the 88.
