Title: 17-pounder view pan not working?
Post by: Kingpin on March 19, 2012, 06:41:39 PM

Downloaded the new version to play with some of the new toys, including the 88s.  While comparing the effectiveness of 88's and 17-lbers, I noticed that you cannot look around you in the 17-lber, as the hat switch views don't seem to work.

IIRC it is only the 17-lber that I noticed this problem in, all other guns allow you to look around.  I am not talking about "god mode" external view.  I'm just talking about panning view to look to the side or behind.

It seems to me a gun crew should be able to look around their gun-pit to see what's around them.

Any reason this doesn't work on the 17-lber, but does on other guns?

It's been that way since the 18 lber was introduced and has been pointed out before, so it's a feature not a bug.

I don't recall it working that way in the last version.  I always thought you could look around in any gun.

If not, this needs to be moved to the Wish List section (please).

Only off by a pound.  :)

A few patches ago Hitech removed F3 from manned guns.

The 17lb only gives you the view through the optics now. It would be nice if he added a GV like "Commander" view to the 17lb that didn't allow you to fire the gun or rotate it. Just scan around in 360 with reasonable zoom and resolution. I would think someone in the 17lb gun crew would be looking around with binoculers for distant enemies approaching when not under fire. That optic was designed for aiming down a narrow angle of view not scanning for the enemy on the move.

No gun crewman would put his eyeball on the optics then tell the rest of the crew, quick now pan the gun while I look for the enemy...... :huh

I agree, I found this very annoying last time I got into a 17lb'er.  No reason a gun crew has to all hide behind the shield while looking for targets.
