I think he means the Stig. We aren't meant to know. On the UK version there have been three main Stigs. The first two outed themselves and were fired as a result. The current stig is still a mystery. They have let it slip that in a few special situations the stig was a factory driver sent to make sure the car was driven to it's maximum potential.

Tanner is good but the Stigs have often been to a higher caliber.

last known UK Stig was Ben Collins http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Collins_(racing_driver) (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Collins_(racing_driver))

in Top Gear UK they have a special board for F1 drivers in their "reasonably priced car" segment and the Stig has beat most of them.

Stig's contracts always demand that his identity be a secret.  The 1st Stig was killed off after he got found out.  The 2nd Stig was fired after coming out.

Micheal Schuhmacher claimed to be the stig when he drove the Ferrari FFX but only because Ferrari didn't approve the real Stig to drive it.

But he didn't beat Ruebens.  :aok

The current incarnation of the Stig is probably the best driver of the 3 and has been one of the best overall even compared to other guest pro-drivers.  It is was noted that his tutelage of the celebrity drivers has been better than the previous Stigs'.

The Stig is a helmet. The person inside is often not the racing driver they use on the track, but some other guy with a similar build. There's also indications that there are more than one racing driver playing the track role for scheduling reasons.

I almost hate to admit it, but the US version is starting to grow on me. I think it takes time for things to gel with the cast. If you go back to the first few series of the UK Top Gear it's weird and awkward. James is such an uptight goof he seems like a completely different guy.

a caravan trip? Probably Spam and wine.

The US version seems forced and dumbed down.  I take it as a personal afront that the developers obviously think that US TV viewers are less refined and intelligent than Brit TV viewers.

totally agree, TGUS keeps getting better and the guys are starting to work off each other more naturally. Ive actually enjoyed the last few ive seen more than the latest TGs ...

edit: they do need more variety for the big star/small car thing. there must be some celebs out there who dont have a garage full of restored musclecars?
