Title: RIP GMC <S> Chuck will be missed.
Post by: shegotya on March 25, 2012, 08:18:58 PM
I am still in shock as I post this sad news. Chuck GMC from the 31st. has passed away. I spoke with his youngest son (12) this evening and wow what a mature young man. Who by the way told me he sat many of nights side by side with his Dad and even took the reigns a few times. He included the fact that he was as good as his Dad! Made me laugh ... made me think of so many memories. I have some of the personal information he shared with me ...

He had a battle with Cancer and he won that fight however, if I am stating the right facts (I am very upset right now) they found a four inch tumor on his lung and pneumonia set in. With the fight he had with cancer he just could not fight the pneumonia and here we are. He passed Tuesday March 20th.

Steven 12
Twins Katelynn and Jamie 20
Shannon 30
Jess 25
Jeff 24

The above is the list of Chuck's children. I know Tango31st & Chief31st are on my facebook so I will be in touch with them. I have seen scot31st (not sure of spelling) in the MA recently and hope to see him again soon. As far as the 31st. web site it seems to be down or I cannot find it. I will PM those I remember who I think still have BBS accounts like Kudzu31, ZEKE31st and I am drawing a blank right now ... I can't think straight. If you have contact with any of them please pass this information.

NO DOUBT a memorial flight will be in the making ... I will need help so please PM me if you can assist. I will be sending request PMs also to a few for help.

I made a video many many many years ago when Chuck (GMC as Bishop) and myself (as Knight) met on a hill and had a stand off. We were PMing each other through the whole thing. I edited it put it to music and posted it here on the BBS and on the 31st. web site. It was one of many great memories I have with GMC ... when I would change countries and hop on the 31st. squad channel there was never a dull moment and my face hurt from smiling and my gut was in pain from laughing so hard! Quite of a few of the best times I have had in the last ten years! I will never look at double syllable words the same ... I hope someone is still around who gets that joke!!

RIP GMC <S>

Shegotya I know the feeling. When I heard it was like a hit to the stomach. I left Aces High 2 several years ago after leaving the military I couldnt afford a new computer. Was about to make a comeback but now with GMC gone I dont know about it anymore. But I told his son Steve I would come back to wing up with him. Thank promise I will keep. I am sure alot of people run into the 31st and GMC more then you know. This of course was a few years ago. Ever recall you are to take a base with a cv and in out no where comes b-26 hauling butt and skimming the water. That was the 31st with GMC in the lead. Ever spawn in with a GV to get your tank blown to bits by a plane then spawn in to have a tiger greet. Well GMC. Thinking about taking a base then a set of IL-2 come up to wreck your party. ANd here are personal favorites because I did them all the time with GMC on my wing. Your about to whipe out a poor Bishop base to have a couple of tiffies or Doras show up and whipe out your ord. And of course this tops all of them and I think SGY joins us on one. You come across a lone Hurricane and harass it left and right and right when you think you got me your plane gets ripped in half by a Tiffie or you get a tiffie in a turn fight to have a hurri get you that would have been me and GMC. I have know GMC for years both in game or off game. He helped me with some hard times with good solid advice such as when I left the air force. I could on and on and on about all the things he has done. He was a friend and a prized wingman.

Shegotya if you fly the memorial flight I can not make the promise I would be there but would make the effort as long as I have the night off. But the aircraft should be Typhoons, Il-2s, and B-26s with a couple of P-51 with 31st colors. The Tiifies, Il2s and B-26s were his preferred aircraft.

With many thanks to AH community

Does it come in three's??

1st Mac, then GMC

Mac and GMC are now flying wingman tactics.

I'm totally saddened by these events.  Both Bro's.  Both need to know "God's Speed", you'll be missed by many!!

Brothers, we lost one in a Billion when he punched out of this plane. A better friend you'll never find. My only consolation is that I KNOW we will meet again. Rest in Peace, GMC. You always had my six and I;ll never forget. You and your family (<S> Stevie!) are all in my prayers.

SWrokit has suggested to me and his "guys" to combine a memorial service for Mac and GMC.

I thought it was a great idea.

April 7th. is the date and more information is on it's way but, for now I am looking to contact as many from the 31st. I can. I saw Kudzu & Chief post here and I have jag & Tango on facebook so I will send a pm/message to those four again to look here because per SWrokit we need ...

SWrokit:
"I need 1 to become the missing man for GMC in formation #2, then I need at least one to lead formation 3 and one for #4.  3 & 4 represent GMC, they are Typhoons and IL2's.  That would be a complete representation of GMC."

I am off to locate some more members of the 31st. Back up volunteers can't hurt. Will update here so check back often.

Thanks!

I am So in...Have done formation memorials and missing man in P-51D and am willing to practice if selected in plane assigned me. I will never be Thunderbird or Blue Angel good, so if there is better, I will fly as assigned.
Thanks for letting me participate in the combined memorial for these two fine gentlemen.
GMC is probably laughing his toosh off at the very thought. In all the years he and I met in the skies, not once did I ever beat him, but he was always so humble about his win, he made me want to come back and get shot down over and over.
I will truly miss them both.

I was in the 31st (for only a couple of weeks a long time ago).  GMC was a good guy to fly with.  After leaving the squad I'd often find the two of us deep in enemy s*!t.  He was always up for a good fight and I had been wondering what had happened to him as I hadn't seen him in a long time.

Condolances to his family.
