I know this has been brought up numerous times, but I figured that I'd just start a new thread instead of punting an old one.
Yesterday happened to be an occasion when I had a friend over. We were drinking some beers, grilling yardbird and hanging out in the 5" guns (because it's a relaxing thing to do on a Sunday :)). We had two situations that I think need to be dealt with.
1) We were sailing along, blasting away, when the need arose to turn the boat. The call went out, but it was too late because the guy that had the boat was on the other side of the map. His response was, "Oops, I forgot I had command." Fair enough.
2) Same scenario as above, only this guy's response was, "Sorry, I was AFK." Fine, I understand the need to do other things too.
I propose that any CV commander must be on or within one sector of the Task Group He/She is commanding.
I also understand that I could play for six hours a day and be a score potato so that I could kick out a slow Captain and take command myself. Unfortunately, I'm just a casual player and I don't think it's fair that I should be punished for taking that outlook on the game.
Another thing I'd like to mention. I was watching "Deadliest Catch" a year or two ago. In the episode I saw, the man on night watch had some sort of buzzer that went off every few minutes and he was required to press a button to shut it off, thus ensuring that he stayed awake. I'd like to see a message pop up in the text buffer after "X" amount of time of inactivity. It would say something like, "Wake up Captain So and so". The player that gets the message would then be required to type a response or be booted from command.
Trust me Gents, I've driven many a CV to it's doom. However, I only drive when I'm on board and always do my best to avoid bombers and shore batteries while maintaining a heading that allows for as many guns as possible to bear on the target.
In the end it's just a game, but that little quirk kinda irks me.

Agree. Something must be implimented to deal with those who "command" & leave.

Now whe have the 12hours side change like the old days, if you change sides in the 12hrs before the win you don't get the perks right? why not the same for the CV's?? you need to be at least 12hours in the country so you can take the CV command, so we have two factors needed to take control of the aircraft in a fair way. Just my 2 cents :aok

+1 on this. The capt isn't in command if he isn't on board.
