Title: Sun N Fun Airshow
Post by: Butcher on March 26, 2012, 02:20:03 PM
Anyone going to this years Sun N Fun in Lakeland? I'm currently a mile from the airshow, generally don't go, but I did with a former squadie last year and had a blast.
Probably going to go this year, suppose to be a ton of warbirds (far more then last year).

Sun N Fun starts 3/27 and ends April 1st Admission is $35 youth under 17 are $15

I myself am planning on going on the 30th or 31st (Friday or saturday).

When I eventually finish my homebuilt, I will attend.

The guy that designed the plane I am building goes almost every year.  The last time he was there were tornadoes.

One of them took his plane for a ride and nerfed the landing...

I saw the results when we stopped to see him in Fincastle, VA on our road-trip last year.

Yeah the tornadoes were the first i've seen in 20 years, usually only hurricanes come in my area - but random tornadoes hit hard last year - and now a good portion of homebuilt pilots WILL not attend.

Problem was people's aircraft flipped over and were trashed, Sun N Fun would NOT let any of the pilots near their aircraft (or repair/clean up damage) instead Sun n Fun sent everyone a bill for clean up.
This royally pissed off the aviation community, I had to volunteer the day the tornadoes hit, problem was my rental property is not far from the airshow, I had parts of home built in my back yard.

He wasn't pleased is all I will say.

I doubt that he will go back, but I would like to go at least once.
