Messing around at the range with my new stripper clips for my Mosin

What exactly is a stripper clip, and how is that functionaly different from a regular clip?

A stripper clip is a metal strip that holds rounds together to make it faster and easier to load a bolt action rifle that does not have a removable magazine. Here's a video.

Unless I completely misinterpret the beginning to this video. Looks like the Marines don't do it that way. Ehh.

In that video, you are seeing that they are simply using the stripper clips to keep the rounds together and easy to get at. Never tried it, but stripper clips probably don't work well with double stacked mags like the M4/M16/AR15.

Yeah I imagine it wouldn't work very well. But I don't have all that much experience with ARs. Maybe 100 rounds through one.

Whenever me and my bud go shoot his Mosin we pass on the stripper clips because they end up either cutting one of us and/or taking longer. But to be fair I haven't tried that method so I'll give it a whirl.

I don't use them either, for the same reason. That and when I do shoot my Nagant, I don't usually put many rounds through it so it isn't a big deal to load them one at a time.

Uh hate to bust your bubble but stripper clips work just fine in a M16 / AR. magazines I used them quite a bit in charging mags in the Army. There's an adapter that fits on the mag, insert the stripper clip and zip the rounds in. Way faster than inserting single rounds into the mags.

Didn't know there was an adaptor. Thanks for the info.

They work just fine with M16 mags. You do have to have the little widget that fits on top of the mag to hold/guide the clip.

Short vid showing the stripper clips being used. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CugXijCx2sc) This guy doesn't really know how to use them. Would have worked much easier for him if he'd used the edge of the table to push the rounds in. Place the clip into the adaptor, hold the top round in the clip against edge of table then with a quick, forceful shove push the magazine onto the ammo. With a little practice it's a very fast way to load mags.

I've got one of the Finnish M91 Mosins and it's alot of fun to shoot. But no stripper clips :bhead

Stripper clips work very well in the AR mags as well as the M14 mag. Try loading 600 rounds by hand and you will have a great appreciation for stripper clips.

Stripper clips being used in conjunction with "spoons" in modern magazines is a far cry from the stripper clips used to directly load the rifles of yesteryear. It is not as easy as one thinks, it takes practice and repetition.
I have stripper clips for my Mosin, Enfield, 1903, k98, and my Arisaka. I need to find some for the French MAS 36 and some better condition clips for my Arisaka. I have plenty for my Garand and M1 Carbine. :D
