Title: British Tank & Zombies
Post by: nrshida on March 28, 2012, 05:07:07 AM
Some time ago we discussed the inexplicable appearance of a Chieftan tank in 'The Walking Dead' (Series 1). I forgot all about it but just the other day quite by chance I watched 'Zombieland'. Much to my surprise in this scene:-

I'm guessing it is the same vehicle. Is there simply a Hollywood prop company that owns it? Or is there some Zombie-themed significance?

I can bet that you can probably find that tank in 28 days/weeks later.

This very tank must be the cause of the zombie apocalypse, since it is the only common factor.  :noid

It might have been a whole lot cheaper for Hollyweird to purchase surplus British armor than to try and buy a US M1x Abrams still being used.  *shrugs*

I remember seeing that Chieftain tank disguised as an M1 in the 'The Walking Dead'. I was surprised and it made me think  initially that the series was made in England considering the lead actor is also English.

But I think it's something to do with the some law where you can't get an M1 surplus anymore even for a movie. Considering you can buy any number of British and Russian MBTs that's seems a bit odd.

The only real tank I ever saw was at a paintball venue here in Ireland. It was a Chieftain too. It was used in the movie 'Reign of Fire'. Funny enough the Irish army has no tanks. So the owner outguns the whole army :aok

You'd probably need a big permit in America to own an Abrams. Pffft, so much for the right to bear arms.

I always wanted an Alvis Stalwart. Then one day I spoke to an owner and he told me they were worse than some helicopters. Apparently for every hour of driving it is about six hours maintenance and he assured my you absolutely needed a large hoist to do that with.

Look nice though:-
