Title: Stuttering ...... Heat issue?
Post by: Getback on March 28, 2012, 06:13:04 PM
My comp is running at 53c at idle. That seems a tad much. Not sure of the issue. I've tried reinstalling the cpu fan but that doesn't seem to work.

What CPU/Heatsink?    I'd remove the Thermal Grease and do it again.

i2500k with stock heatsink/fan. I did that once. At first I thought it was the connection but then the game ran smooth on my other computer.

What temps are your cards running at at idle and while in game?

From what I know with the 2500k runs optimally between 55-70* Celsius on idle in bios. The only thing I can say is buy a different cooler for that and reapply the thermal grease.

But the best thing to do is get a different cooler because in short the stock coolers sukage.

Here is a good fan and it comes with a free case..

Here is what I run on my 2500k http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181016&Tpk=h80
I idle at about 28*c (except for core 2 which is always hotter than the others, that one idles around 34*)
I also have a 212+ as posted above that i no longer use.

Yikes, that is expensive! Nice setup though.

Are you using Arctic Silver? Does the heatsink surface have a finish like a mirror? You could get it cooler but 53C isnt going to kill your system.

The stuttering was caused by a bad download of AH. I tried everything. New Heatsink/fan, deleting programs, Reinstalling VC software, and switching vc cards. I was about to just restore the computer but then thought it couldn't hurt to reload AH. That did the trick.

don't forget to give the thermal paste ( or Artic Silver )  time to cure......

the temps will be a lil high right after seating a heatsink/fan   for a few days/week  then should drop back to lower temp readings,

always been my experience, anyways

First, which part is running at that temp? The CPU or video card?
Second try removing the side of the case. Take a fan and face it to blow into the case to see if it reduces the temps.  Maybe you don't have enough ventilation in the case.

I noticed the same thing long ago. Particularly with some of the older version.Almost like every once in a while it gets tired of being patched or updated and a clean install does a world of good.

This was a new install just a couple of weeks ago. I theorize (not being an expert) that Windows update interfered with the download procedure. I think it loaded 99 updates on the reboot.
