Title: Memorial Flights
Post by: Zoney on March 28, 2012, 06:31:34 PM
The passing of a fellow player and friend is always a tough one.

I think it is great that we remember them always and memorial flights are an excellent way for many folks to participate.

I have flown in many, too many, and will continue to do so every time I can.

I have only set up one, and that was for Wreked, who passed not to long ago.  I still get choked up a bit thinking of him.  Sometimes I see a name that looks like "Wreked" and for just a moment I forget, he's gone.............

We flew A8's, one of his favorite planes, in the main arena.  We flew a fighter sweep, announcing it on country and 200, inviting everyone on country to fly A8's and inviting everyone else to come up for the memorial fight.  I set it up in the main because Wreked, I believe, would have wanted it that way, a memorial fight, not a flight.

Also, it was instantly inclusive.  We had discussed the fight on the boards here, naming the place and time, and still many had not heard of it and came and joined as soon as we announced it (1 hour heads up, and repeated the invitation every 10 minutes).

These are my thoughts and opinions on memorial flights.  I am advocating for memorial flights to be held in the most inclusive way possible which I believe means in the main arena.

Finally, if I may be allowed a self serving moment, please, should I pass, please remember me in a memorial fight, in the Mains, in high P47's.

Thank you gentelmen.  I invite your opinion please.

I hope you're not planning on departing us any time soon, Zoney!   ;)

I do like the MA idea as being more inclusive.

My friends know MY memorial "flight" would be a dram of Aberlour 12, followed by a Highland Park 15 and finished with Lagavulin 16 (in that order).

I'd be honored if anyone simply raised a glass of one of those to me, if I ever shuffle off.

In the meantime, here's to your health!

I, along with the rest of the 91st Bomb Group, will always support memorial flights in memory of real people that have made this game & community that much more enjoyable.

Well, now..........that screenshot wouldn't really have been possible in the main arena.  There is certainly something of value in that sir, <S> .

This took place in the main late May 2010. So many people turned out to remember Vega, a real life pilot and good friend to many. The 91st was among those along side in our "dress" colors to honor his memory.

Vega's memorial flight was something I'll never forget, It pretty much stopped the war for nearly 2 hours.

I know he was watching and enjoyed the heck out of it.

<S> to all who flew with us that day, it was truly amazing the support that was shown.

On topic, I agree that the MA is the place to hold these events, but it can be tricky, there are always people who will take a cheap kill in that situation.

<S> 91st especially, our Brother Squad!
