Anyone else notice this little pony?
http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2012/03/28/1100-hp-shelby-mustang/?intcmp=features
Might be fun for a little while.

:O

On a side note, I congratulate Hennessey in claiming the true and official standing mile record at 257mph.
That said, we went 270 at nasa two weeks ago in testing and will be having official tag/heuer timing ready for our record attempt of 280.

That new Mustang Shelby offering (650HP, 600ft/lbs torque) looks pretty nice. Look forward to seeing it on the track.
-
Shelby gets it. Big motor, small car, go fast. And he makes a decent chili mix to boot!

The GT500 is a 3,900 lbs car, I don't think they'll be much lighter, the Shelby SS is 3,800 something.
-
Now im not so great with cars... are they sayin this car can actually go 257 if it had the room? Or is that just a race term?
-
No Skull, Icepac is talking about the Henessy and whatever module he is working on (maybe a GT40 he posted apic one day?). The article mentions a GT40, which is not the Shelby 1100 hp. I'm no aerodynamic expert, my guess is that the Shelby 1000 will top out in the 220s.
Also note that Icepac is talking about reaching those speeds not ' given enough room', but in ' one mile from a dead stop'.
At any rate, the GT500/KR/SS never did too good on road course, they are pretty heavy and still struggle for traction. A GT500, even upgraded to a SS, is no match for a ZR1, probably even a stock Zo6 on a demanding road course.

it's only a 5.8 liter....smaller than the camaro's or the challengers engines....yet much more powerful. :devil :bolt:

also, while shelby's the subject....anyone heard this?
0-60=3.6
1/4 mile=11.5
and we already knew it tops 200.

Fox or CNN... they just push their agenda. lol They are not news outlets. They are for entertainment only.

As much as I'm also a Mustang fanboy, we still have to keep it real.
Yeah well, you have to be objective about that, the 6.1 of the Camaro SS, nor the 6.4 of the Challenger SRT8 are supercharged. :D Plus Ford as nothing to gloat about, there's still a couple of Euro/Nip with half the engine size that develop similar 6.1/6.4/5.0/5.4 power.
But you are right with the weight, I was off by a wooping 80lbs :lol ... I forgot the 2012 shred 100 lbs with the new all aluminium engine. At any rate, despite Shelby's God like ego, and him stating he's making supercars rivaling Europe's finest, the 05-09 GT500 were a disaster. The 10 was a little power boost, a significantly improved handling ... yet couldn't really make it a wow car. 2012, still working on handeling. 3,820 lbs is still a freaking heavy car. :uhoh for track work. Sure you can impress your co workers with 'I have a gazillion HPs', but I'll take a Boss 302 over a GT500 to actually lower lap times. The Laguna Seca lap times are pretty self explanatory http://www.fastestlaps.com/tracks/laguna_seca.html (http://www.fastestlaps.com/tracks/laguna_seca.html) (on a side note, what the heck happened to Randy in the LS? Was it raining? Did he left the hanbrake on? :joystick:)
As for the Shelby 1000  I can thing of many many many cars I'd rather drive/own for $200,000.

I'm a BIG Carroll Shelby fan, but this is just a little bit silly I think, 950hp going through a live axle rear end on street tire is going to be a handling nightmare. I don't care what they say... this is straight up drag car, because unless you have throttle manipulation/steering coordination skills of Senna or Andretti and you try to push this car you WILL be going sideways and backwards before you exit most corners. Even the new 650hp GT500 would be very hard to handle for most drivers I imagine.
Rather then silly stuff like this where they just pile on more and more power, I wish they would make a Mustang that is MUCH lighter, with MUCH better mechanical and aero grip etc, to rival the handling of European and Japanese sports cars.
But what I REALLY want Ford and Shelby to do is put the GR-1 into production, I was like a teenage girl at a Beatles concert when I first saw it years ago, and the talk then was that it WAS going into production in place of the GT. Sadly that never happened.

No, that was a link to a different story about a different car. A highly modified 1200hp+ Ford GT by Hennessy that set a new standing mile speed record at 257mph. A standing mile is just driving a mile in a straight line from a stop, and seeing how fast you are at the 1 mile speed trap.
With the aerodynamics of a Mustang (or lack thereof), I doubt even a 1000hp would get it much past 200mph, but mind you 35mph is enough to kill you.

cap1 just squecked :D

He's always had some insane cars. Look at the 65/66 Cobra Super Snakes. Bill Cosby had one and gave it back because it was too nute.

I'D TAKE the boss too....and the camaro that'll compete with the shelby is indeed supercharged. and it's a 6.2liter. :devil i think the only dodges that'll compete at that level are the viper engine equipped ones.
also, there's rumors flying around that the gt500 did nurburgring in the mid/low 7:30's. :x :devil
i'd still take the boss, because i like making power without power adders.

About $1800, plus you will need to buy access to car manufacturers website to download needed software. Usually $30 per day.

Thats not a car. Its a monster. A MONSTER! :D Ive had 3 Ponies in my life. Of the 3 that powder blue '66 289 with custom pony interior stands out the most. That was my high school car and it was a girl magnet. I found it on a used lot in '72 with 30,000 miles on it and it was in perfect condition. Ive always dreamt of having a Shelby.
