Title: text buffer
Post by: Midway on March 30, 2012, 10:51:42 AM
:headscratch:  Can't type anything in the text buffer on 200, country, range, to myself... anywhere.

Have I use my alotted number of keystrokes this tour?  :huh

Or did HiTech comense with the beatings and I've been a bad boy? :uhoh

 :cry

Elaborate please.

Do you get the radio control bar?
When you click in the radio control bad input box, does the caret (cursor) not appear?

Details please.

Cursor appears.  I type (ex. a pm to myself "Test"), hit enter, and the text disappears as if sent, but text buffer does not show it then. :frown:

If someone muted me, would it say that and for how long?  Or do I need to reinstall AH?

Are you using the "All" channel (in box 1) in the arena?  That channel is disabled in the Late War arena.

Neg.  I tried country, 200, mission channel, and even tried tuning to myself.  When I hit enter, the text input box disappears but my msg doesn't show in the text buffer.  Problem started last night just before I logged.

In game name is Kojami right now.... want to change it back to Midway but have to wait two more weeks.

I do type more than most but never curse or call mean names and received no mute message last night.  Maybe a mod got upset with someting I said and muted.... don't know.

If you were muted or lost text privs, you would see a message in the buffer about it when you logged into the arena.

Didn't see, but will relog now to check.

If thats the case, I'd give that mod a raise!  :devil

Relogged twice and looked everywhere... no message or box saying anything related to mute or text.  :headscratch:

Should I reinstall?

It is voodoo.  The packets for text use the same mechanism as the packets for everything else related to flight.  I have no idea why one would work and another would not.  Same protocols, same ports, same everything except the data in the physical packet.

Makes no sense to me.

Well, my SA will improve.  :)   No more typing for me.  Vox works fine.  Maybe HiTech or somebody didn't like me pushing someone's button via text, which I do on occasion.  :D

I'll wait a day or two and then reinstall if it doesn't fix itself. :headscratch:

Well, now it's working again.   Just pm'd myself and it worked and typed a smiley face on 200 and it worked too. :)

There goes my SA. :devil

btw, I didn't do anything different to get it to work so I still don't understand what happened.  :headscratch:

Will let you know if it happens again. :salute :rock

Do you turn off your computer when you're done with it, or do you leave it running 24x7? You'd be amazed at what Windows weirdness pops up if you don't at least reboot now and then.

I shut it down when I'm done.

I'm suspecting a mod muted me because it seems like it was about 12 hours from when it stopped working to when it started assuming that's a standard mute time period.  I was having a lengthy discussion with Top Gun at the time and maybe someone got upset... I don't know. :headscratch:

Maybe there's a bug in the mute notification or message box? I rarely get muted so not sure what to expect.  I was once muted for 10 minutes a few months ago for singing, but there was a message box that warned me and then said 10 minute mute iirc.  Mod didn't like my singing.   :frown:

Sounds like your text buffer was scrolled up, hence new typed messages did not appear in the box.

Happened again just now...  but this time when I logged of and back on it says "Your chat priviliges are currently suspended."  Didn't say that last time, but at least there is a message now.

I suppose someone muted me for some reason.  Any way to find out the length of time of the muting and the offending word(s)?

You can send Skuzzy a note and he can look at the logs. If you were muted unduly.... like that would ever happen to you... He'll clear the mute and punish those that used the mute function improperly.

8 days is standard  with your consistent  trolling and badgering  of Debrody its not a mystery why you got muted

Well, given his starting it as soon as I logged on, I felt the urge to respond, assuming he wanted a little back and forth.  I do not believe I called him any bad names or cursed (same could not be said for him).

btw: trolling, according to the definition, requires deceiving.  Which I don't do. :)

Email sent... no need to discuss further here.

:old: Which is why I don't curse or call mean crude names.

Seems that a warning message box prior to being muted would suffice to control this type of thing.  :salute

 :headscratch:

Would you like to continue this back and forth here? :)

A simple message box saying "You're crossing the line on taunting. Stop." would be sufficient, if that was the reason.

My wife and kids are out of town till Friday,  :headscratch: but why are you referencing my personal life?  Taunting (or just getting a dig in)? :huh

The auto-text-mod pops up a warning if you type a "bad" word.
If you get reported by enough people, I don't think there's a warning.
If a real live mod is on, I'm guessing you would be warned and given a chance to behave, then muted if you persist.

The real control for this type of thing should be common sense. But alas, common sense seems to not be very common in online games.

The definition of common sense is grey, obvious to one's own sense of common sense, but that may be different for others.

Again, a simple warning message would be sufficent.

A simple suggestion it works for me , don't take my advice if you don't want it.
HTC will not warn you they take you know the rules and if you cross you deserve what you get Sir.
If you're lucky you will get a warning from a MOD , if you're lucky

Im done here

I understand the taunting and the trash talk, neither of which I do. I do enjoy Twins conversations  :devil but you, Midway, rub a raw nerve. When I log in you are the first I squelch. I'm here to play and have some fun, and what you do is not fun to me. I see your name pop up and I don't bother to wait an see if your going to be ok or an @zz. I just don't want to be bothered by it.

I don't care what you call it, or how you explain it, but what you do is far worst than the things I've seen Twin get muted for. If this was my game I would happily forgo your $15 in favor of possibly saving many other accounts of people who leave because of what you bring to this game.

But hey! That's just me and my opinion.

Well, Fugitive, there are always gonna be some people that rub us the wrong way, we all know of some.  Question is how do you handle them?  Calling them names and putting them down is probably not the best approach.

Buy hey!  That's just me and my opinion.

You report them.  That is what the facility is for.  There is line between good natured taunting and being abrasive. If anyone has a difficult time knowing the difference then they should learn to live with losing chat privs.  This is a game.  We want it to be fun for all, not just the mouthy ones.

Antagonistic irritants run off new players.  Not good for the game.

The message you got says the community voted and decided you should lose your chat privs.  The suspension is 8 days long.  If the community was wrong, then we can rectify that.

Thank you for the explanation.  The crude name calling and comments by certain people over time do drag me into pushing the limits of being overly abrasive with them.  I've never used the reporting feature (due to the 'i'm going to tell on you' nature of it), but going forward will report them and leave it at that.

I did send an email to the support email address and hope you will take a look and see if a warning or less than 8 day suspension makes sense.
