Title: Too Hot?
Post by: AustinAustin on March 30, 2012, 11:04:53 AM
I'm not a geek. I notice my graphics converter board temp. gets up to 297F. Anyone know if that's normal or not? I noticed a couple times with like 50 guys taking off on a mission the fps dropped to like 31.

Oh, it's a ati 3650HD and the fan does spin and clear of cat hair. Game graphics set to Default.

Any info appreciated, thanks.

be lucky your house is not burning down. mine never goes above 130*F and its overclock its a HIS HD 6790. so 297*F on a week card like yours IS WAYYY to hot.

EDIT: I have fan on 100% for gaming due to overclock and but its loud. so i turn it off when its not needed. once i left it off while playing BF3 by mistake my card went to 212  then i BSOD

That is high enough to cause many solders to melt.  Found any loose silicon chips in the bottom of the computer yet?

63/37 is the only one that melts at a point which I think is around 360. My iron is usually set at about 415. Otherwise your right... way too hot.

There are 3 solder alloys, I know of, (97In-3Ag (290F), 33Sn-57Bi (281F), and 52In-48Sn(245F)) which will melt at, or below his temperature.

Yep, 63Sn-37Pb melts around 363F.

I have to wonder if this is akin to the speedfan bug?  It gave you a bogus/ higher temperature reading.

But if this temperature is legit, I would consider investing in a new video card.   Also of note what case do you have?
