As many of us know, the Megamillions lottery is up to an even 500 million jackpot, the largest jackpot in lottery history. The Cash option gives you 359million and the annual will give you 19.25 million per year for 26 years.
So if you were to win, What would you do with it.
I would probably take the lump sum cash and do..
Spend 50 million on building a new hangar and facility for the aviation museum i belong to. The hangar I'm projecting as designed now (yes i already have it designed) should cost between 10-20 million, the other 30 million will be to acquire aircraft and projects and to fund them.
Would give my aunts and Uncles and grandma 2mil (per set). I would give my Parents, sister and brother 5 million each. I would set up trusts for all of my current and future nieces and nephews which would have 250 grand each. I would give my cousins 100k each (only have 6 total) and i would give two step cousins 50k each.
I would also buy the local FBO at which im currently flying at. And in doing so i would place an order for 20 Cessna 172's and 10 CEssna 182's along with 5 Beechcraft C90's and leasing 5 Kingair 350's for training and part 135 ops which would cost ~30mil.
I would use 100 million to establish a new airline based out of Pittsburgh (sort of been one of my dreams). It would be a cross between the legacy and LCC models providing Pittsburgh all the needs it lost since US Airways screwed us.
Then i would donate 10 million to local charities and set up some sort of trust for my local school district.
And finally, i would invest the remaining money in gold.
And if nobody hits this jackpot tonight... I'm expecting the jackpot to reach at minimal 750 million if not almost a billion. It was reported last night on the news (national news i believe) that some place was experiencing a 3 hour wait to get tickets...

I would pay off my fathers mortage, pay off my mothers debts, pay off 20-30 years of car insurance, invest a couple mill to real estate, a couple more to Stocks, get into a paramedic program and pay it off with that (only ~12,000 around me, but i dont have that laying around right now), and let the rest sit in the bank.

2 new cars - new Range Rover for the wife and Maserati Quattroporte for me.
new boat - 30 ft or so.
Gift about 500,000 to family members.
Then travel....a lot.

Winning? As it was pointed out last night...if you took a picture of every single Russian (150 million +), put those pictures in a hat then drew out the picture of Putin...about the same odds.
If I won, do a little yada yada yada, put most of it into a foundation and spend the rest of my life improving education via grants and research. By improving education, specifically economic literacy, policies would change getting us off the "European socialist" bandwagon.

Pay each AH player $100/month to play (have to be in the air at least 30hrs/month), up to a total payout of $50,000,000 for 20 years, first 20,000 to hit 30hrs each month. Give HiTech $10,000,000 to spend as he wishes as reward for creating this awesome environment, and another $10,000,000 to enhance game further. Then $20,000,000 for prize/training pay for top pilots that win contests and train people over the next 20 years.
$150,000,000 to charity.
Remaining $400,000,000 into stocks and other investments.
Oh and my FPHs and a few others (incl all members of The Few) would each get $50,000 per year for 20 years off of my $40,000,000 annual investment returns on the $400,000,000 invested. FPHs, of course, would get four times as much and my bestest FPH would get double the four times amount. A real Spitfire would also be sent to his nearest airport so he can enjoy some real life Spitfire flying.
All the rest would go to support my family, friends, and myself.
Hoping all along that the money won't ruin anyone as it has for so many other lottery winners.
Would have to think about it more... but that's where I'd start.

Odds are about the same if you buy a ticket or not I hear.
Setup my family for life aye, then..
I'd prolly spend a day or two shopping.
Bubble store a ZR-1 Vette, another for a daily driver.
Then put together some gearheads in a decent shop and build cars I'd like to see,
..perhaps even grow a client base as I am sure others would like to have similar rides.
First up would be a '68 Hemi Cuda setup as a daily driver.
Ya .. politically incorrect as it could be, prolly 4mpg, cragar S/S's all round,
..FUN to drive tho.
Heck I may even build a coupla airplanes once I get the shop up an runnin good :)

I tend to agree,however I do buy an occasional ticket when the prize goes over 15 million.
In Canada the lottery winnings are tax free but you do get taxed on and interest urned at about 50%.
A friend won the lottery,6 million back in 83/84,we called him the 6million dollar man... :rofl
It about drove him crazy,his phone rang all the time,salesmen showed up at his house with almost anything,once a 30 ft. sailboat was park outside his house in hopes of an impulse buy.

First thing Im doin is buying a gated condo and not just one room but the whole condo. Then hiring a team of former seals and other assorted BA's as my personal protection force. Probably look into buying an F-16, a C-130, and a PBY.
Of course I would invest to help keep money flowing.

With that much money what can you really do? Seriously.. I could buy everything I've always wanted and still have well over $635,000,000 left over (I know I know taxes.. sheesh).
I'd have a blast just setting up everybody I know for life. Like them or hate them.. If I know them they're getting taken care of in some way or another! I haven't talked to my mom in years but she wouldn't have to worry about working every again. My dad would be able to afford anything he wanted and not have to worry about medical bills for his cancer any more. My brother... well I'd enable him to sit on his butt and play WoW for the rest of his life (although he doesn't really need money to do that in the first place).
Even my ex- wife would get a healthy share. "Here's a couple of hundred grand thanks for the memories now buh bye!" Of course I might neglect to tell her that I reported her earnings to the IRS ;)
Really.. I could set up everyone I know even the people I don't much like and still have many more times the money that I could ever want to spend. It's just that much money!

By close they would only be the few who have stood by me my entire life and have shown their loyalty. I have four that are more "brothers" then friends. Two others have gone to God already but the point being if you qon that kind of dought you'd have no end of friends who "think" they are close.
The rest of my life would be dedicted to the causes I believe in and would use the money to further them. Things like Veterans rights. Appreciating the military community of which Im a proud part. Scouting, hunting, shooting, and most of all protecting our sacred rights under the 2nd amendment. The right to keep and bear arms. I like some of the Christian International childrens funds too but many charities are all self greedy or semi-commie and wouldnt get a dime.
Then I'd retire to a quiet life in a small town with lots of fishing and hunting nearby. I like the Ozarks or the Blue Ridge cause your not freezing your heinie off in winter. I'd be in Africa for two months a year, hunting. I'd love a world class antique gun, decoy, waterfowl call, fishing lure collection.
Oh well, its fun to spend a few bucks and have a dream. ;)

I've always been fascinated by the rush to get a ticket once the jackpot rises to ridiculous levels.
I mean, I don't know about you but I'm pretty sure I'd be just as happy with 20 million instead of 600.
Once you get over a certain threshold it's all just icing on the cake, imo. If you're smart enough to invest, anyway. If you're just planning on spending until it's gone then yeah, the more the merrier.
Really the first thing to do after a jackpot win is to form a budget. Try not to spend the cash. Invest it and live off the dividends. I know that I, as a single 23 year-old, could probably afford 99% of what I want with something just north of 100K/year. Money like that can last forever if you do it right.
Anyway, in this economy I'd take a lump sum for sure. Probably invest heavily in metals in case the dollar implodes.

all lotteries have drawing days. For the Mega Millions, its Tuesday's and Fridays at 11pm.
If no winning ticket was sold for tonight's drawing, the 640 million currently in the jackpot will be rolled over to Tuesday's drawing in addition to all of the money that will be spent over the weekend for Tuesdays Drawing. You have until one hour prior to the drawing to purchase tickets for the current drawing, but there is a cutoff point in which further ticket sales are not counted towards the current drawing, but instead are used for the following drawing after that in case someone wins the current drawing.
If a ticket was indeed sold, then that person will have a set amount of time to claim the prize of 640mil and the jackpot will be reset for Tuesday's drawing. If nobody claims the jackpot in that time, the entire jackpot will go to fund Schools and elderly people instead of the normal portion.

I'd take the lump sum, donate 1/4 to a 100% charity, keep 1/4 for myself until I die, use a 1/4 for family, and save the last 1/4 for my future family.
What'd I buy: A mega dream house, a mega sexy car, clothes, shoes, the sexiest gaming rig, a sim pit, hire a maid, put together a AH gathering, travel around the world.
Of course, never let anyone but close family members know and close friends and stay anonymous.

Oak, that's a great idea on the bison, Oklahoma has a tall grass prairie and they want about keep it capped around 2,500 bison. That preserve is about 45 minute drive from me. I try to buy bison meat. I tell people it's the almost the same as beef in taste. Cattle and Bison can interbreed, so there isn't much difference. The down side is the cost. 5 years ago, bison was cheap to buy. Not any more.

On living off the investment .. or makin your money work for you ..
3 million in a basic savings account will net yearly dividends even at 2% return to provide a decent living. (60k/yr)
5 million will keep you in six figures at 2% return.
That's all I would need.
Most decent investment houses today can get you a bit better than 2 percent return, even in the crappy markets of today :)
So ya .. even the 'basic' lotto would do the deed just fine.
As has been said, anything above what it takes to provide a decent living is icing on the cake.
We would also be givin most of it away to charities after family are set
..ASPCA Food Bank, etc ..
..and aye I would be buyin a few toys for friends and I.. just because I could.
Wife and I have picked the Powerball to play, 1 ticket for every draw, for years now.

I feel your pain flench, my g/f once did 2 lines on our thunderball she had 4 and the thunderball, the other 5th missing number was in her second line. I thought she would still have won a decent amount maybe a few thousand but only £250 !! :cry
you can see how the lotteries make their cash with the prize breakdown, I would rather have a 1million top prize rather than 640 and then spread the wealth better. I guess people are drawn in by the big numbers.

Darn I had 4 number's and the power ball and it only pay's 100 buck's , errr one more number and I would have won .
I know its not the same or even close, but a couple of jackpots ago, I missed every number by one but had the power ball. For example if the numbers were 1 12 19 37 48, I had 2, 11, 20, 36, 47.
If you would have had all 5 but not the mega ball, you would have got 250K...

As many of us know, the Megamillions lottery is up to an even 500 million jackpot, the largest jackpot in lottery history. The Cash option gives you 359million and the annual will give you 19.25 million per year for 26 years.
So if you were to win, What would you do with it.
I would probably take the lump sum cash and do..
Spend 50 million on building a new hangar and facility for the aviation museum i belong to. The hangar I'm projecting as designed now (yes i already have it designed) should cost between 10-20 million, the other 30 million will be to acquire aircraft and projects and to fund them.
Would give my aunts and Uncles and grandma 2mil (per set). I would give my Parents, sister and brother 5 million each. I would set up trusts for all of my current and future nieces and nephews which would have 250 grand each. I would give my cousins 100k each (only have 6 total) and i would give two step cousins 50k each.
I would also buy the local FBO at which im currently flying at. And in doing so i would place an order for 20 Cessna 172's and 10 CEssna 182's along with 5 Beechcraft C90's and leasing 5 Kingair 350's for training and part 135 ops which would cost ~30mil.
I would use 100 million to establish a new airline based out of Pittsburgh (sort of been one of my dreams). It would be a cross between the legacy and LCC models providing Pittsburgh all the needs it lost since US Airways screwed us.
Then i would donate 10 million to local charities and set up some sort of trust for my local school district.
And finally, i would invest the remaining money in gold.
And if nobody hits this jackpot tonight... I'm expecting the jackpot to reach at minimal 750 million if not almost a billion. It was reported last night on the news (national news i believe) that some place was experiencing a 3 hour wait to get tickets...
too much money, I would buy myself a P-51...don't know what I would do with the rest.

I'd set up a college trust fund ( like mensa, great thinking).
I'd set up fund for wedding/honeymoon trips for my kids.
Put my mother in law in any house she wants, anywhere.
Put my parents in any house they want, anywhere.
Pay off the bills for my brothers, my sister in law & brother in law.
Start my non profit org.

pay for my college, finish flight school, no point in putting the rest in the bank because your only insured up to what 250,000? So it would be a very large safe in my new house. Keep working to pay the bills. The winnings would be my "fun" money/. Retire young and travel the world. I need money.... :noid

I'd take half and put it on very long term investments and secure them in a way that the next five generations after me each get a good amount of money to start their lives with (im not talking making them super rich.. honestly if a person cant make a decent life for himself with say, 2 million bucks received when they hit 25...then they dont deserve to have any more).
The other half of the money I'd use to take good care of my parents and close family (sister, cousins, grandparents) and to start a long term business.
..of course, I'd relocate out of the US and do that in country where my money triples in value. This may sound harsh but I truly believe its foolish to remain in the US seeing how badly the money gets devalued daily and how corrosive the laws are against non-megacorporation companies. I'd rather take my money to where it is worth more and will do more good for myself and the local community it will be in.
