Is anyone on here plan on attending the F1 race in Austin,Texas this year???
-
$5,000 for a private seat license no thanks. The guys running the show down there are making a mess of it. I read that you could attend the recent Grand Prix of Malaysia for half of what it would cost to attend the race in Texas.
-
But think how poor the general population is in Malaysia. Of course their ticket price is cheaper

I don't know where you have been reading that. This is from the websit:
Tickets
We are very excited to start selling tickets to the inaugural F1 race at Circuit of The Americas. As construction roars ahead, we are finalizing our grandstand and general admission seating plans and will be able to put tickets for the 2012 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix on sale early this summer!

I have been to the Montreal race twice, GA both times. It was flat out incredible. I loved being right up on the fence as they tore past. The sound was amazing, though that was when they had v8 through V12 engines. These V8's are intense but I haven't been that close to them yet.
And, with the GA, I could walk wherever I wanted and not feel I was wasting my money. It was the 90's, and I think it was around $35 a ticket for GA.
So yeah, $5000 for a "private seat" is stupid high, especially for less to see than you would at home on TV.
Someone better tell the boys they gone be a'turning left AND right though.

I'm talking plane ticket, hotel, and race ticket combined. I'll just cut and paste from the thread over on the Autosport forums.
Malaysia (last minute):
Main GS: $574
Airfare/Lodging (3 nights): $1870
Total: $2444
Austin (8 months out):
Mian GS: $6750
Airfare: $300
Lodging (3 nights): $1000-$3000
Total: $8050-$10,050
Difference: $4606-$6606 more to attend the USGP at Austin.
Credit to Conosour for posting the above.
I'm not taking my chances on general admission tickets. The two years I went to the F1 race at Indy I sat in the stands near turn one. When I saw the construction plans for Austin my hope was to sit in the turn one Grand stands. That isn't going to happen for the ridiculous amounts of money they want.
In addition I thought the hotel prices in Indy were a little steep. Turns out those prices were a bargain compared to the jacked up hotel prices in Austin.

I wanted to go see it, but $5000 is too rich for my blood.
-
Those are speculation prices

In order the purchase a ticket in a grandstand you much purchase a $5,000 PSL. I was going to take my son and my dad. That's $15,000 before tickets, hotel and air fare. No matter how you spin that is more money than I'm willing to spend.

If they dont put up a TFR I will have the best seat in the house
-
There are other seats available.....

I hate to drag up this old topic but I'm still not seeing the affordable ticket prices.
GA
Friday: $221
Saturday: $221
Sunday: $287
3-Day Pass: N/A
Toatl: $729
$729 for general admission tickets. That's crazy. :cry

Hell, it would be cheaper for me and my friend to fly to Florida to see the USMNT vs Scotland game on the 26th, and then fly to Maryland and see them take on Brazil on the 30th, and then fly back to California. All for the cost of 1 person at the F1 thing.

When they raced in Houston .... it sucked.

You mean Indycars/cart sucked at Houston. Formula 1 is a whole different ball game.
