Article fails to mention any of his Family's work during WW2

Why should it? He was too young to have participated in that.

Lot of fellas passing the torch it seems.
-
incredible that the 911 has outlived him. RIP Ferdinand.

If you read correctly, I stated "His Family's work"

Indeed, but the article was about him, not his family, so once again, why should it mention his family's activities in WWII?
-
I also cannot see why it should be mentioned obviously all Germany families where.
VW,Porsche beetle and 911
Just love these cars

I disagree with their crazy ideas about putting the engine in the back of their cars.
-
Its the best idea better than a front engined heavy car.
Though its weight is more projected too the middle.
Just watch some top gear and u see why the Stig is uber in this car.
Especialy the 2wd version.
Like a p38 its an experten car :P

<<S>> Ferd.. You provided and still provide me with a joyful driving experience.

I'll just remain biased. No doubt the man was one of the most prolific car designers of all time.
-
The porsche family was against the rear engine idea in performance cars but practicality dictated it.
Porsche #1 is mid-engine.
-
Porsche nr1 to me is the beetle by pappa Porsche :D.
His kids refined the concept that started basicly with beetle parts.

I used to think that too Rob52240, and then I rather unfortunately drove one. Suddenly it made perfect sense.
The Porsche family were a bunch of cads if you read into the history without the misty-eyed romanticism. A very prominent character in the success of Porsche, who often goes unmentioned, is an Austrian fellow named Erwin Komenda. He was only an 'employee' so doesn't get the credit he deserves

You're not thinking about the bad weather in Germany for many months of the year. A rear engine beetle will keep going when those "rear wheels" of yours are spinning and going nowhere.

That, and strangely, they decided to get more power from a smaller engine and foolishly make it capapble of turning left AND right in quick succession. Idiot designers. Big, heavy, lunky, straight line power. That is all you need.
The man knew what he was doing. And I think the body changed less than even the Model T, though again, because it worked, not because it "has to be that way".

With especially the earlier 911s, it's really all about steering the arse by adding or removing power.
-
Not all Porsches have the engine in the butt.

I remember that car with fondness. As fast as you can go without having to eat airline food, was their motto back then.
-
hardly any of porsches models have had the engine hanging off the back (356 & 911), its just the 911 is so iconic that it seems that way.

Hard to argue with 16 overall lemans wins and 7 in a row.
